His description of a desired potential replacement sounds a lot like Ferentz. "That's the kind of coach that we would have to get to replace a coach like Nick -- one who's a sitting, successful coach at the present," Bertman said. "I don't think an assistant coach could do it, I don't think some NFL assistant, unless he's had college head coaching experience, could do it. Of course, there aren't many out there as successful as Kirk." Ferentz: "A year ago we had some calls and if we keep winning, that's probably going to happen," Ferentz said. "This is a good job in football, and this is a good job on the personal end of it. I think people also forget we have 15 years invested here. In our adult lives, we haven't lived anywhere as long as Iowa." Interesting... you absolutely couldn't do any better than KF and Bertman's job parameters seem pretty tight.
Hey.... if Iowa sportswriters can do a story on it, I can copy and paste. I don't think KF would go to LSU, but that's just me. I do find it intriguing that these two guys just happen to be facing each other in the CapOne.... a bit of irony, if nothing else.
Ferentz is an excellent coach, LSU would do wonders to have him, however I agree with Hawker45 he is not leaving. He has found a home, plus Iowa is a pretty good football program as they are in the hunt every year for the Big 10. By the way when is the Big 10 going to get a Championship game, I remember the year Ohio State won the National Title they didnt even play the best team in the conference... Iowa How bogus is that ???
As I understand it, you need a 12 team conference to do a championship game. This is why the ACC had to wait until next year to have their game. There is much talk about who should be the 12th team for the Big Ten.... Notre Dame, Pitt and Syracuse get the most mention. I think the B10 would be wise to look "east" to enhance their TV audience.
ND would be the best draw, but they seem hellbent on not joining a conference. What other east teams are out there that would draw a TV market?
Yeh thats my point I know you need one more team, but I am surpised the Big 10 has not gone after the $$$ of a Title game, of course it can be a huge negative as the SEC and Big 12 has learned (Since its a huge disadvantage as OU and Tenn can vouch for) But we all know its about $$$$ and those games bring in Huge $$$$. I dont know I would have love to have seen Iowa play OSU that year they won it. Because I think Iowa beats them. ND would be the logical choice, but you know ND.
'Tis sad, but another school often mentioned is Rutgers... go figure. The reason is Rutgers is the State University of New Jersey and the B10 commissioner has stated a state school would "be of preference". Rutgers would move their games to the Meadowlands if they were picked.... makes little sense to me, unless Rutgers wants to commit to the big time. They certainly ain't there now!!!
