For some reason I think that the Saints sharing a stadium with LSU would be really cool, but... it would also wreak havoc on an all ready unfinished stadium. Just think of our poor field. Of course the Saints could pay for some really cool additions and NFL-ize our stadium.... I;m beginning to think it's not a great idea, but for one game? Maybe.
you don't know much about the saints? the saints will not spend one penny on nfl-izing tiger stadium. they MIGHT reimburse for the electricity that the stadium uses.
are you trying to say that Benson is going to try and find a way to get out of incurring any cost and reaping as much profit as he can? I don't think he would do that. :yelwink2:
LSU officials have already stated that there would be rental fees, etc... I say have the saints foot the bill for Field Turf to be laid down.... LSU is supposed to gut the field after this season anyway.
LSU has not offered the stadium to my knowledge. The NFL and the Saints want it, but LSU likely does not. There ain't enough money in it to be worthwhile. More importantly we have enough problems with stadium construction, Hurricane Katrina emergency facilities on campus, having to absorb 20,000 students and faculty from UNO, etc, etc. It is impossible to recycle the stadium from a Saturday night LSU game to a Sunday afternoon Saints game. It takes over 24-hours to clean up the stadium and get ice and concessions ready. The natural turf would be destroyed by mid-season. The Saints are not LSU's problem, it is the NFL's problem. They will play in San Antonio likely where they can sell beer, not in an on-campus facility. I believe the Alamo Dome is where they will end up playing. Maybe permanently. Benson has been threatening to move the team to Los Angeles or San Antonio anyway, unless the state builds him a new stadium in New Orleans. And that ain't going to happen anytime soon.
I can't see the Saints playing in Tiger Stadium just from a logistical standpoint. Trying to get Tiger Stadium ready for a noon kickoff after an LSU night game is almost a near impossibility. I think Benson is looking at two options - 1) either move the Saints to San Antonio, which Tagliabue might like, but the rest of the owner would likely criticize him heavily for selling out the city and state in a time of despair 2) Instead of rebuilding the Dome - propose the idea of building a retractable roof stadium in it's place. But, I've been wrong twice this week on LSU matters so my record is shaky at best.
