But I'm back home for a while. Finally got to geaux redfishing last Friday with my brother. No kayak or canoe trip, but still fun. Went to Hopedale...got there too early. Water temps in the upper 40's! Fished EVERYWHERE with nothing happening. I even tied on dead shrimp under a cork...! - After watching the water temps climb to the low 50s thanks to the sunshine, we decided to try a place we fish tournies sometimes. FINALLY saw some bait moving, and realized the entire fishery isn't dead. I just kept casting and casting...tied on a spinner (Booyah Samurai, black with chartreuse tail) to cover more wadda. Felt like I swam it into grass, but soon realized it was a fish...AN ACTUAL FISH!!! Attempted an all too late hookset, and saw him roll over...then he spit the hook. It was a red! Cast again and felt that "grass"...and laid the wood to him. This time, he wasn't getting off. Good grillin' size one, no need to net it, so I told my brother to get in there...he had a spoon on. First cast he makes, hooked up with a red. We kept at it for about 30 minutes, landing 6 nice eaters. We headed to the launch, thinking we were going to be able to go today. However, I lost a friend of mine Friday, and had a funeral to attend today. :bncry: - We thought about moving the next trip to tomorrow, but now are planning for Thursday, as the rain appears to be coming tomorrow and Wednesday. Water temp is the key, and it's getting right. No need to go early right now, let the sun heat it up on the flats first. - I'll get some pics next time...still waiting on my brother to upload some from Friday.
First of all, I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. Thanks for the fishing update. I have been going through so much lately that I haven't been fishing in a long time. It's good to live vicariously through your post, though. You are a redfish madman.:thumb: Thanks again for the report.
