every time anyone says anything you have to "guess" their intent. and again, intent is the only thing that matters.

if an englishman comes in here saying he hates fags and likes to burn them, we would have to guess from his nationality that he meant cigarettes. we dont just say "well duh, fags are fags, he said it, that homophobe". communication is about context and interpretation, not just reading words.

 

You did not directly characterize Salty's words as bigoted but your objections to martin damn sure implied that what Salty said was bigoted.

 

Sorry i didn't see this before or I would have responded. She definitely cost him the presidency. The biggest mistake Mccain made was trying to get the republicans and conservatives to vote for him. He had their vote, he needed the independent vote, which decides every election by the way, and he ignored it. Don't give me the ole, "republicans would have stayed home" crap. That's BS. They might piss and moan all the way to the polling place and all the way back home but they're going and they're voting.

Choosing Palin, and I said this at the time, was like throwing up a hail mary in the first quarter. It's exciting and fun but 99 times out of 100 it doesn't work and when you look back on it, you realized it probably cost you the game. She was weak, or at a minimum had unknown qualifications/knowledge, and was selected to target a select group (white republicans). I think if he'd have chosen Mitt Romney and appealed to conservatives, he may have pulled it off. Remember, Romney did some things that appealed to some independents like universal healthcare.
