I see there has been some confusion about the BCS awarding of quality win points for defeating the same team twice in one season. I did some digging and I found the rule. Here it is: Quality wins A team will be awarded bonus points for beating a team rated in the top 15 in the standings. The bonus points for quality wins will range from a high of 1.5 points for a win over the top-ranked team to a low of 0.1 for a victory over the 15th-ranked BCS team. Should one team defeat the same top 15 BCS team more than once during the season, quality points will be awarded just once. Here is the link: http://football.about.com/gi/dynami...ne.com/u/ce/feature/0,1518,1507663_56,00.html That being said, shouldn't we rather want to play a Tenn team who is ranked higher than Georgia right now in the BCS and who we can also get quality win points for if we win?
I think the rule has changed....I think points are awarded for beating the top 10 BCS not 15..that is an old article
Yup... 1.0 for the #1 team....0.1 for the #10 team... Dynamic sliding scale based on the current rankings, too... LSU had .6 points when Jawja was #4. Now we don't have that same amount deducted by our score... Also, if you play a team twice in one year, and they're a "Quality opponent", you are not given the points twice...You only get credit for winning once...not twice.
We defeated Georgia when they were ranked #7 in the country and before the BCS rankings came out, but we already received quality win points for them. Right now Georgia is ranked #9 in the BCS. If they win out and go to the SECCG wouldn't that mean that we would not recieve any quality win points regardless if the rule is for the Top 10 or Top 15 ranked teams?
Something is not right with the QW points on the current BCS standings... LSU has (-.1) for beating #9 UGA, but shouldn't we have (-.2) also Florida has (-.8) for beating #4 LSU, shouldn't that be (-.7) They have UGA's correct with (-.4), because Tenn is ranked #7 It just doesnt make sense!!!!
None of it makes sense. It is amazing we are working on math problems to try and figure out who plays for the National Championship.
i'm quoting myself here, Florida's is right because they beat us and UGA totalling (-.8) but I still dont' see where UGA is only (-.1)....do they us the "Sub Total" to determine QW point rankings....if so UGA would be #10 and it would make sense for us to have the (-.1) Its all stupid and I don't care about it anymore...LETS BEAT BAMA
This thread just proves to me that what the BCS really is..... BULLSHIT!!! I think it sucks and is ruining college football!!!!!!!
Yes, they do use the sub-total when calculating quality win points. They then deduct for quality win points and recalculate. Notice that Georgia was ranked 10th before quality win pts. After deducting .4 they moved up to 9th. Hope this clears it up. Go Tigers. Beat Bama
