So did Oklahoma's loss to Kansas State help us or hurt us? And why? I thought I remembered reading a thread that dealt with this question, but I can't find it. Figured someone could explain it.
Made no difference from what I understand. Results would have been the same. May have hurt us in that if we had beat an zero loss OU team, we probably would have resulted in us #1 in the AP
I don't think it helped or hurt you. I thought you guys got in because of USC's weak strength of schedule if I remember correctly. The only team that it really didn't help or hurt was OU because we were in the Sugar Bowl win or lose against KSU.
It hurt us as far as overall BCS score goes. Had Oklahoma won, Georgia would have finished 10th in the BCS rather than 11th. This would have reduced our score to 5.89 from 5.99. If you remember, USC had a score of 6.15. The Billingsley Poll had LSU with a score of 307 and USC had a score of 306 (roughly). Had USC won that poll over LSU, then USC's score would have been reduced to 5.98. This would have been the case where the K-State win would have hurt us. USC 5.98, LSU 5.99. No lie! Actually refiguring the computer polls, it would have been USC 6.15, LSU 6.16. In other words, had OU beat K-State, then the Billingsley poll could have ranked USC #2 and LSU would still be #2 in the BCS. This OU loss to K-State made it NECESSARY for LSU to finish 2nd in the Billingsley poll ahead of USC. In addition, had it been a real close loss to K-State, I guaranDAMNtee you that one poll would have put USC #1 (AP) and OU #2 and LSU #3. This of course would have put USC in the BCS NC game with OU.
