Our offense is definitely struggling as of late. They move the ball well between the 20's but for whatever reason have been stalling when around or inside the red zone. Our short yardage runs have been ineffective lately with the loss of FB Tim Castille but he will be playing against LSU. Turnovers and penalties have also killed Bama drives. Even with these problems, Bama finds their offense isn't too much worse off than LSU's. LSU averages only 20 more yards per game than Alabama does. LSU averages about 8 more points per game than Alabama. On the defensive side, the Tide gives up about 8 pts. per game while LSU gives up around 13 per contest. Bama's defense allows an average of about 50 yards fewer than does LSU's defense. If both teams play around their averages, both offensively and defensively, this game will be extremely close. I for one will be taking the under in this game. :thumb:
Both programs' offenses have struggled this season. Straight up, LSU has a superior offense to Bama. Better receivers, close to equal QB, much better Oline, comparable runningbacks. I believe the Oline will be the main difference in this game. Bama's defense has looked better than LSU's. No doubt in my mind. LSU's given up more points against the same opponents & had opponents get wayyyy too many yards on us. However, I think our red zone defense might have a slight advantage - not sure if stats would back that up, but I still believe it. The question is, how good does our defense really have to be for this game? Bama's offense has looked down right inept, but I said the same thing about Tennessee, so you never can tell about these things...
The only game we've been effected on Turnovers is last week. Right now, we are +7 in our turnover margin. In penalties, we are one of the least penalized teams in the SEC. On one point you are right, we have moved the ball (on occasion) fairly well between the twenties. The reason you seem to not be able to grasp as far as the red zone work is simple. It's the offensive line. Just for you information, Bama12. Here's a breakdown for you to look over. A lot of this game is going to be what kind of success LSU has on 1st down. If we can, and I think there is a good chance we can, keep you in 2nd and long, 3rd and long the defense will keep us in the game. If you have success on 1st down consistantly, it'll be a different tone all together. The team will be going into specific game planning tomorrow...and I expect the defensive approach will be a lot like the scheme we used against UF.
i totally agree. In the past two games LSU has looked shaky agaisnt the run. Bama's O is strictly Darby and if we stop him we win. Honestly i think we will have no problemw ith darby
Doubt that, we copied a lot of what you guys did vs UF to defense the spread, with a lot of nickel backs and stuuff. You D will not prepare for LSU near the same way they prepared for the Gaytors and the schemes will be totally different.
