Finally a writer in Alabama reports some truths of Saban's failure to hire the staff he wanted. He was certainly turned down a lot but no one including Saban would admit it. A good read. http://www.al.com/sports/birminghamnews/rmelick.ssf?/base/sports/1172135792108060.xml&coll=2
There is a Bama fan in my office. He is dead serious. He says that Brodie Croyle will be a better pro quarterback than JaMarcus. What a joke.
The guy who wrote this is no better than your Gillebeau (sp). Out of the thousands of posts I've read and the hundreds of people I've talked to, there hasn't been a soul that has been displeased with the staff. Not a single one. You've fallen victim to someone who has a habit of trying to stir the proverbial pot. Funny, Melick talks about all these asst's Saban wanted but doesn't mention a single one. Why? It's his own conjecture. Nothing more, nothing less. IF you think he speaks for the Bamanation, you are sadly, sadly mistaken.
JR's first 7 passes of his NFL career can't get any worse that BC's. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brodie_Croyle
Dude, thanks for that link and that post. It's in my co-worker's inbox now. He is a major psycho. Imagine that....a psycho Bama fan.
Im surrounded by gumps day in and day out and from what I hear and see nothing could be further from the truth regarding "grumblings". By all accounts, at least as I've observed them, there has been no dissent whatsoever about the staff satan has assembled. If you look objectively at the bama staff there are some heavy hitters in there and its a staff that is more than competant. I dont hear any rumblings from fans in person or on the public airwaves. Doesnt mean there isnt any but its certainly not an attitude Ive been exposed to.
Well, the guy is dead on about the fancy coaching titles, it's just to make a lateral move by a coach seem like an upgrade on his resume and in his ego. everybody does it to a certain extent. So what exactly is Bama paying these guys, Terry?
What I find interesting here is you believe that the fan base is disappointed with the staff put together. Based on what? Melick's article? I assure you, he hasn't a clue what the fan base is feeling right now. Should I be upset with Major Applewhite? The only reason I can think of is his red hair...here goes the red-headed step-child digs. Burton Burns? One of the most sought after RB coaches in the NCAA. Considered one of the top recruiters in the SE as well. No, not him. Kevin Steele? Oh, another great recruiter and he's done a damn fine job with the LB corps that he has coached. I could go on... Where? Who? (please, do me the favor and point to just one person we should be upset with!!) You can choose to believe what you will. I assure you, if you will take the time and just look around I challenge you to find one, just one, person who is upset with the staff in place. I'd dare say, if you do find that lone soul, chances are they don't know a thing about putting a staff together. At times I don't care for what I see...at times, I can appreciate it...but one thing I can assure you is I have a good grasp on the pulse of the Alabama fan base. Melick, couldn't find it with a stethoscope.
I have no clue about the rest of their staff but their RB and DC hires were a steal. Burns is a top-notch recruiter and coach. Kevin Steele was an absolute coup. His name had been thrown around as a replacement for Bobby Bowden when he retires. To LSU's benefit, he will be a HC back in the ACC very soon if he has any success at Bama.
