Can you believe how this guy is being treated? Stories like this sicken me and the bad part about it is that he's not alone. The way our vets are and have been treated is atrocious. The only thing worse than the government sending them into harm's way unnecessarily in Iraq is abandoning the wounded when they return. Taking care of these guys for life should be a top priority and I am outraged beyond belief that this is happening. LINK
I think he finally got all the benefits he was fighting for. But this is definitely a huge issue that MUST be addressed for our veterans. The one big thing that infuriated me was the claim that these veteran's wounds weren't considered "service related".
The system under which the VA operates is completely outdated and requires a total revamp. I read this story early in the week and was astonished by the nature under which evaluations are being performed and compensated. With a conflict in hand the system will continue to flaw. It was an even further shame to have to go public and get politicians involved to have the VA appropriate what was already in the system and get this guy compensated. I mean look at the guy and decide just how America can ever compensate our troops who come home with their bodies of war.
Bingo! Has been this way EVERYTIME we go to war. As a vet myself with 26 years of service it is for this VERY REASON I would NEVER encourage any 18 year old to "sign-up" and take his chances. This country has given "lip service" to these guys/girls for too long. BTW, if you are inclined as I am, there are several groups that don't have near as much BS red tape to help these people out. Paralyzed Vets and Disabled Vets are two outstanding charities I support and ALWAYS will because of the BS VA!:geaux:
Definitely good to know because my 2 favorite charities are anything having to do with taking care of our Vets and and sick children (like St Jude's hospital). And while donating to the VA is itself a worthy cause, it's the red tape and the inconsistent care to those who need it most that give me pause to donate. If there are other worthy veteran charities out there, I'd like to know about them.
For all that care... There is a link to send a thank you note (free of charge on the PVA web site) to a paralyzed Louisiana war vet. Takes two minutes and made me feel a little better this holiday season. SKB
This is terrible. It is a broken system and it's far worse than you can imagine, worse than what is in the article. I've been there 3 times and by the grace of God came back every time relatively unharmed. The really bad thing is here is this guy with all these terrible injuries and there are guys and gals collecting 100% for much MUCH less severe problems. I hope someone with a solution steps up soon and does something about it.
