My pops tried like hell to get into Officer Training School. He had all the credentials from his ROTC days at LSU, but they rejected him because his cholesterol was to high. He still got a draft card, and would have been sent overseas if he hadn't accepted a position as a high school physics teacher which got him a deferment.
i never really understood how people thought that meant bringing 'em home. i dont think that was ever specifically said. i saw more of "read between the lines" in that troops would be shifted from iraq to afghanistan.
