Man, We layed a fat egg. But you know what we made it there and I still had a blast. Most of the UGA fans were pretty cool about everything after the game, in fact a couple of them bought us some drinks later that night. Had about 7 hours to think about things on the drive home and came up with some points for everyone to ponder. 1. I have been too hard on Miles this year. He has still not impressed me, but he asn't done as bad of a job as some of us made it sound. (reasons below) 2. Our receivers just do not make any kind of plays to help the quarterback. They sometimes catch the balls that are perfectly thrown, but do not make any extra efforts to help JR or the rest of the team. 3. Think about this. If our receivers had caught just 50% of the balls they dropped this year, JR would have over 3500 passing yards and who knows how many more TD's. And yet he still has over 60% completion ratio. Anyone that bitches about his play is football retarded. 4. Our veteran Oline that will have three of the five drafted in April, has played like **** the entire second half of the season. They haven't really opened many holes for the backs, and JR has played the last five games on his heels because of the protection. Don't get me wrong, there are plays, or even whole series where they look good, just no consistency. 5. We have won with defense all season, excluding first two games, Richt and his boys had our number from the opening kick last night. Didn't seem to matter what we did, he was one step ahead of Pelini all night. This killed any chance of us build momentum. 6. This game was over when it was 7-0. It was amazing how much difference there was in the crowd after that score. UGA outnumbered us by at least 3-1, and before that score you would have thought it was an LSU home game. Couldn't even hear the UGA fans at all. After the score, crickets chirped for the Tigers. It was quite sad actually. We damn near got in a fight with other Tiger fans behind us, because we were being rude by standing up and cheering for the team while they were trying to watch the game. Dumbf*cks. I like the Miami match -up. Flynn's scrambling ability will help him make some plays in the game and hopefully we can get back to beating the guys across from us. Oh yeah, Thanks to Donnie, the wasted UGA fan from Birmingham for the beers and Club advice before the game. :thumb:
Good analysis. The offensive line & receivers have been a big, big dissapointment this season. I sure hope we can make the necessary adjustments before next season. Injuries played a pretty big toll in this game for us as well.
Agree..........good post. Offensive line comments were pretty close too. Felt Georgia went for the kill early because they HAD too. Comments about WR's, very accurate, my own son, a WR at 6'3" and 218 chose TCU over LSU and wonders if he would have ever "got in the mix" had he come to LSU. His team use's WR's to block considerably more but he has always liked a "bone" every now and then.
Welcome to the new LSU fan. Too many old farts that are too lazy to stand and cheer. They need to stay home if they need to sit to watch the game.
"Old" is a very relative term until you have been to a TCU game. I had to move back over to the "hood" in Amon Carter Stadium to feel OK about going crazy.
I disagree about the crowd.. we tried.. we were just outnumbered immensely. otherwise, I loved the trip, I would go back even if I knew how the game would turn out. The GA fans were awesome man, they definately made me support them in their games. I really enjoyed myself and if les miles ever brings us back... I'll go again
Yeah, I agree with most of this. Our receivers have been disappointing to a degree. Mostly Bowe with all the drops (although he does make some big catches). However, most of the pass plays are so conservative that it's almost impossible to do anything special with the ball after the catch. When you run five yards and cut out right next to the out-of-bounds line, you're not going to do anything with it even if you catch it because the defender just has to push you out. And I definitely wouldn't say that anyone who bitches about JR's play is football-retarded. He had a year in which he definitely improved and had some good games. But here's a list of things he needs serious help on: 1. He takes the longest sacks I've ever seen in my life. Some aren't his fault, but a good number are. Throw the ball away! Let Matt teach him. 2. Make a decision to throw or run faster because he sits back there entirely too long when his main guy is covered. The O-line sometimes gives him plenty of time and he just stands there and can't decide. 3. Get the play going faster so each snap doesn't take ten years or result in a delay-of-game penalty. LSU's scoring drives take forever and this is one of the reasons. Our first score was actually the longest drive ever in the SECCG. Have some urgency - watch Georgia's offense. 4. Learn how to throw a screen consistently. And I agree that our receivers don't make many special catches. But JR is limited to throwing a lot of short passes because of the calls and he does have a habit of throwing the ball below their knees on those passes. Davis made awesome catches in the Bama game that were as close to uncatchable as you can get. Overall, the coaches need to step the discipline up. You drop passes consistently, you get benched. You want to take 14 yard sacks when you have plenty time to throw the ball away, the backup is coming in. It's not that hard and it produces results. And if they would throw more than a two yard pass on a consistent level, JR would be better because that's his game.
Fair enough. I still think the playcalling has been bad this season. But JR hits the guys in the hands 80% of the time. It doesn't matter what play was called, they still have to catch the ball. Unfortunately if we benched receivers for dropping balls, we would have been running the damn wishbone by the North Texas game.
You sat in the club level seats chosnone? You didn't by any chance have a Georgia fan with spiked hair throw a pom-pom at you and tell you to sit down? And then after a few seconds call you a dick head? If so, I was sitting behind you... lol...
