article LSU's Pontiff Had Heart Abnormality Toxicology Tests Negative, Coroner Says Posted: 1:18 p.m. CDT July 29, 2002 Updated: 2:31 p.m. CDT July 29, 2002 NEW ORLEANS -- Toxiclogy tests indicate that LSU baseball star Wally Pontiff Jr. had no prescription drugs or illegal substances in his system when he was found dead Wednesday in his Metairie home. The Jefferson Parish coroner is now focusing on an apparent heart abnormality. A final diagnosis is being deferred pending a microscopic examination of Pontiff's heart tissue, the coroner said. An exact cause of death will be released when it is complete. Pontiff, 21, recently had been drafted by the Oakland Athletics and was in the process of deciding whether to turn pro or finish his senior year at LSU.
I think we all knew in our hearts that Wally would be clean of everything. Of course the classless Auburn fans were saying steroids and what not. But that is to be expected of them. This is a tragic loss for both the LSU family and the Pontiff family. I wish his family the best. Geaux Tigers
