Last night as I watched South Carolina vs. Kentucky it brought me back to 2001 when winning a game, any game, was awesome. When winning THAT ONE GAME that week meant we could move up in the polls to the #19th spot, etc. I don't know, it just was more fun watching LSU football back then. We didn't have as much talent as we do now, which made every win so much fun. I know we weren't competing for National Championships, but it seemed us LSU fans appreciated our Tigers more. Which brings me to wonder if we need to change our attitudes as they were back then? I live in Alabama and they went 10-2 last season and they cherrished every victory no matter who it was against, but even though LSU went 11-2 last season I just didn't get the same feeling as the Bama fans were feeling.
Yeh those were great days, but then we tasted the nectar and we want more. But where they really ? I mean we were praying not to get blasted, contant beatings by UF, Alabama beating us at home every year ?? Nah I will keep what we had (have)
No no, not Dinardo years. The early Saban years... when we were brought back to life ans began to beat teams we shouldn't. Unlike now, where we believe/should beat every team that we face. I just miss those days. When a bowl game meant something and not why aren't we playing on January 7th?
the bitch of the game yesterday that it wasnt UFs talent that won the game, it was LSUs bonehead plays and bad coaching... IF UFs talent had won the game then that hope for next week would be there... but if LSU keeps playing like they are, then a 5 loss season isnt out of the question..
No. LSU does not have the OL talent Florida has, or for that matter most other SEC teams. Saban did not leave the cupboard full at this position, he not only cost us in 2003, but by not leaving sooner, he cost us OL recruits in 2005 as well. You can argue bad coaching..whatever, but Miles can't coach players he doesn't have.
What's really puzzling about that is that Miles cut his teeth as an OL coach, so you'd think he'd have some expertise in that area and recognize a weakness either in talent or technique.
Sigh... Let's go to the tape, ladies... LSU Rushing -> 90 yards, 25 attempts = 3.6 yards per carry Florida Rushing -> 97 yards, 32 attempts = 3.0 yards per carry LSU sacks allowed -> 0 Florida sacks allowed -> 1 Looks like our O-line did better than Florida's. Ok, maybe you could say our defense is way better than Florida's, capable of making Florida's O-line look worse than ours. But at 3.6 yards per carry with 0 sacks yielded in 41 passing attempts, our O-line is doing well enough, thanks. They certainly weren't out-matched versus Florida. As for the performance of our QB and the game-strategy & discipline/training instilled by our coaching staff, though... Florida kicked our butt. (Well, Bo Pelini is a stud, but our offense and special teams coaching SUCKED...)
There is a lot of truth to what you say. I remember Saban saying that with winning comes expectations. We are fortunate for a lot of things but there's a difference between getting beat shooting yourself in the foot. Florida is a great team but we made it very easy for them. We were lucky it wasn't a bigger margin of victory for them.
No, we might as well assign some blame yesterday to Pelini as well. Our defense was not focused and didn't look well-prepared. Pelini doesn't get a pass. No one does. Everything derailed. It reminded me a lot of UGA '04. The only way to put it behind us is to start winning again. I feel like we will.
The blame for this game gets spread around pretty evenly. Bad play calling, poor execution, and lack of intensity on offense and defense. It was a weak effort all around.
