...yes preseason polls are complete BS, and give a completely unfair advantage to teams who are "supposed" to be good, but still worth noting... (sorry, almost crawled on one of my soapboxes there for a second...) http://www.athlonsports.com
They also said we went 8-4 last year with the schedule and results right underneath it showing only 3 losses.
Wow, they completely disregarded the fact that we have a fella by the name of Matt Flynn playing for us.
Just a tad lower than I'd like LSU to be when the "real" polls come out. I think early wins over Az St and Tenn, especially if both are undefeated when we play them, could put the Tigers in the top 3-4 by late September, assuming the start the year around 6-8th in the rankings.
If LSU is ranked #9 in the real polls, I'd say its too low for this team, but its is just right situationally. #3 last year brought alot of pressure... THe team felt like they had to dominate every game in order to prove they were worthy of the position... at #9, they can just win games and move up..
Wow, that's an incredibly jack@zz thing to say. Just b/c a player wasn't a starter, or didn't play a substantial amount in games last year doesn't mean at all that he didn't substantially contribute to the team and the team's success. If you honestly believe that only the big name players matter then you have a very, very elementary understanding of football, and team sports in general. I do not know Matt Flynn, and neither I nor you, unless you happen to be from Tyler, Texas have seen enough of him playing to know that he doesn't have a chance to win the starting spot. Flynn was a highly rated QB coming out of high school, and there's no reason to think that he doesn't have enough talent to compete. To say that Player A is just so good that Player B doesn't have a shot, even though you've never really seen Player B play more than a few mop up plays, is just ignorant. I'm not saying Flynn will beat out Russell and now Perrilloux for QB, but I'm just saying for fans to write off a player just b/c there's not much hype surrounding him is just stupid. The national media is expected to buy into the hype b/c hype sells. But here's the deal: for the last 2 years Flynn has put in just as many hours out in the hot sun on the practice field as the other guys, taking reps and putting himself in positions where career ending injuries aren't uncommon, and it's a crying shame when the fans don't give a player the respect that he deserves and write him off as a "non-contributor" just because he didn't come out of high school with as much hype as some other guy. Grow up.
