Dorsey was a late round pick by the 49ers but he played well in the preseason and made the roster as their 3rd QB. I don't know what his salary is but I would imagine that he is paid somewhat over the NFL minimum. With has salary and whatever signing bonus he got I would think he probably made well over $500,000 for the year. Mauck could do the same and still atend dental school in the off season semester. He could earn a nice nest egg whether he sticks with a team for 1 ,2 or 3 years and who knows, given the rate he improved from last year to this year he just might one day become an NFL starting QB making several million per year. I would love to see him come back for his senior season at LSU. No matter what anybody thinks of his QB skills he is 19-2 as a starter. LSU will play 2 games before heading into a brutal 3 game road trip against Auburn, Georgia and Florida in a row. The second game will be against Houston and should be a win no matter who is behind the center. The first game will be against whoever LSU can schedule. It has been rumored that it might be Washington State, a 2003 top 25 team. If not it will probably be a cupcake rent a win team. No matter how great Flynn or Jamarcus might eventually be they have no college game experience and are going to make mistakes that they won't make when they get some experience. True freshman Chris Leak was a pretty damn good QB by the time they played LSU but he made a lot of mistakes in the early season. If Mauck dosen't return either JaMarcus, Flynn or both will be pretty experienced by the time the Florida game is over but at what cost.
