I was talking to one of my buddies the other day about Ronnie Henderson but he hadn't heard anything about him either. Henderson had NBA talent but seemed to lack the work ethic needed. Great 3 point shooter and mad hops but was missing the intangibles (ball handling & D). Maybe better coaching could've helped him develop. I guess my team would be: PG: CJ SG: The Pistol SF: Ricky Blanton (could also play center if needed) PF: Bob Pettit (guess you have to put him on this team) C: Shaq I was a huge Stromile fan and spent way too much time on his nicknames when I was in BR (Stroberry Jam & The MaeStro) but I probably couldn't even put him on the 2nd team. Maybe if he played one more year. The 1981 team was before my time but I'm sure someone belongs on that team. Since CJ & Pete would be shooting so much, you could go big (really big) and put Cook in for Blanton to rebound for all of the outside shots. Or maybe replace Blanton for Ethan Martin and move Maravich to SF.
The best five players who played on the same team would be the 1980 team, I think: C -- Greg Cook PF -- DeWayne Scales QF -- Rudy Macklin PG -- Ethan Martin WG -- Howard Carter
How can you not have Shaq or Maravich? Maravich was probably one of the best passers and ball handlers of all time, and averaged 40+ points a game with no 3 pointers. Maravich scored so much because he had to. Shaq is a center so will never have very many assists. He was also one of the best shot blockers in college basketball. 1. Chris Jackson 2. Pete Maravich 3. Shaquille O'neal 4. Stromille Swift 5. Ricky Blanton
Ditto for me. If this post is what 5 players would be the best if assembled together, how can you not have Bob Petit on your team? He not only was an All-American, he went to a Final Four. And I think Maravich would have good chemistry with big men like Swift, Petit and O'neal on his team. Then, Jackson could be the shooting guard, since that's really the position he's better at.
Willie Sims was the ultimate sixth man and a friend of mine. He went on to play in Israel (of course this is way back in the early 80s...)
In no particular order: 1. Pistol Pete 2. Shaq 3. Rudy Macklin 4. Leonard "Swat" Mitchell 5. Howard Carter
John Brady - Thats for you, TE Actually, since you didn't specify that it had to be a former LSU coach I will go with either Phil Jackson or Red Auerbach.
