Around the SEC – finally, fall practice and football are finally here ---- From various AP reports: Starkville – Coach Croom reports that eight of State’s 34 freshman recruits - Korentheus Bailey (6’3’, 248lb, DT), Maurice Crutison (6’2’, 210, LB), Antwon Dixon (6’1”,, 200lb WR), Jazzmen Guy (6’5”, 260lb, DE & 4star by rivals), Mike Hunt (6’2”, 210lb S), Colton Jenkins (6’4”, 286lb OL), Antonio White (6’2”, 240lb, LB) and O'Neal Wilder ( 6’5”. 200lb, WR) - did not meet the NCAA freshmen academic qualifying standards and will head to junior college. Oxford – FormerWayneCounty defensive tackle, Jerrell Powe (6’3”, 360lb) is still waiting on the NCAA to give clear him for fall practice. Powe signed with Ole Miss in 2005 & 2006, but not in 2007. Since Ole Miss has been seen as cool to Powe at this point in his struggles, some of those close to him say that if he ever does become eligible, Ole Miss probably will not be his first choice and that he has talked to other schools. Meanwhile, ever positive Ole Miss AD, Pete Boone, says Ole Miss is talking about a football series with Texas – in 2012 and 2013. Columbia – USC linebacker Dustin Lindsey’s status is still questionable for academic reasons. Coach Spurrier said Lindsey is one of several players who need to do well in summer school to be eligible. A former starter who missed the 2006 season after failing out, Lindsey (6’4”, 222lb and recruited as a DE out of Mobile in 2004) returned to the team as a walk-on and played well before tearing a ligament during the spring game. And Spurrier has announced that the teams first practice on Saturday and the two scheduled fall scrimmages (August 11 & 18) will be open to the public. Otherwise the Visor is sticking to his closed practice rule.
Thanks Mike. I'll have a little to share come Sunday aft. or Monday...of course, in detail that most here won't want to hear!:thumb:
