The AP is reporting that Danny Nutt is leaving his job as running backs coach at Arkansas because of continued health problems.

Further east, Tennessee Offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe and defensive coordinator John Chavis each received three-year contract extensions, which run through June 2010. Their base salaries remain $275,000, but their Adidas endorsements will increase each year. For the fiscal year 2009-10, for example, Chavis' total salary will be $350,000 and Cutcliffe's will be $375,000.

Speaking of the SEC what is the story so far about the Bama players allegedly arrested this weekend? I am sure some Bama fan can shed some light on the subject besides the guy in the link.

Cant confirm if it true or not. The mods on Tidefans shut down all threads on the subject until further information is released.

Also it is kind of funny that Saban followed the lead of Les and was being honest about another conference compared to the SEC. He makes similar remarks about the Big 10 and it is not being hyped for some reason. I guess you can tell the truth as long as it doesnt involve the Pac 10.

The story is true. I'm sure the threads were shut down because people were rushing to judgement, listening to so many "eyewitnesses" on local radio shows, never minding the fact the details (besides police reports) simply aren't available as of yet.

If following the lead of Les involves answering the last question at a Rotary Club meeting then I guess he is doing just that. :dis:

Much like Miles comments about the Pac-10, the Big-10 is in the same category. They'll have a few good teams each year, and then there are the bottom of the league.

No disrespect to the Big Ten, but most of the time there were three or four good teams in the Big Ten each year. Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State were pretty good and then there might be another team or two that was better that year. But here [in the S.E.C.] there were eight or nine teams that were all pretty good. That was a challenge to play with the kind of consistency you needed to be able to sustain that kind of performance.
Anybody that has won a national championship in this league, that speaks volumes to me because of the quality of this league from top to bottom and the consistency it takes to be successful long-term.[/quote]

Considering the Big 10, we see one of the teams these blog writer mentions (Michigan) trying to get rid of Lloyd Carr. We are just a couple of years away from Penn St. being less than mediocre. So, technically, they have one school that has been consistant over the past 5 years.

When looking over the SEC, you can pick at least 4 teams out of the West, 5 out of the East who could legitimately upset any team on a Saturday.

Come on Terry, it is clear that NS is looking to Les for cues on how to handle the media. His Rotary Club comments show that he doesn't want Les to hog all the spotlight.

unfair to compare the big 10 with the pac 10. typically in recent history the pac10 has 3 solid teams (usc, and usually cal, and maybe UO/WSU/ASU). the big10 typically has 5 solid teams (UM, OSU, UW, and pick two of PSU/Iowa/Purdue).

however, while the lack of conf champ game is always brought up as a weakness of pac10, dont forget that they have a true round-robin schedule. so they dont have seasons where a middle-tier team (say Arkansas) gets off easy by not having to play the top teams (uga, tenn, uf).

also, this is only a comparison of roughly half the teams of the conferences--what about the bottom half? sec-om, msu (both lower than theyve been in a long time), vandy, uk (both doing well for them), bama and usc. dont you think those last 4 would do better in any other conf? to be fair, pac10 only has one horrible team. big10 has a couple.
