I am firmly in the camp that as a sports organization, you play to win every time you walk on the field. The focus should always be that you compete at the highest level tactically and strategically. Winning is as much attitude as it is physical ability. Building a winning team comes from an entire organization with a winning mindset. That’s a long way of saying you have to BE before you can HAVE. To do this you put the best players who give your team the best opportunity to win. I’ve never agreed with the idea that you play the up and coming guy over the established starter. You play the best guy. To this point, I felt like Etling, overall, was the QB that fit the bill. Senior leadership, experience, not making mistakes etc. I think the team has now reached a point where that alone is not going to be enough. It appears to me that we are approaching a point where this offense needs more play making ability at the position as teams become more familiar with what we are doing on offense. We are nowhere near the air raid that was Anthony Jennings, but we need our passing game to be more of a threat. I haven’t made a single practice I have no professional experience, but I’m beginning to wonder if Etling is still the best overall player for the position.
