The only scenario where I can see LSU finish 3rd behind USC and OU in the AP poll that is about come out, is the following: Take 2 AP voters who do NOT want to see LSU in the Sugar Bowl and want desparately for USC to make it. All they have to do is not place LSU anywhere on their top 25 ballot. Think about it, that's about 24 points lost for LSU per ballot. 2 voters = 48 points. This could be enough to swing the tide and leave LSU 3rd in the AP and LSU end up #3 in the BCS. Could this happen? Are there safeguards against it? Let me know what you think. If anybody has info on this, please post.
Not sure if there are ncaa ramifications, but I can gar-ron-tee they would regret the day they ever did that.
That is just not gonna' happen. Although your theory is possible, it is so very, very unlikely that the human mind cannot conceptulize the travesty of such a unethical vote. I do not know if AP writers (or Coaches) have to revel their voting, but I do not think they have to. Some unethical voting may have taken place in the past (see Coaches final poll 1997) but in this case a federal investigation would be warranted. I am supremely confident that LSU is playing in the Sugar. No worries at all.
I guess after all the bullshit that has been going on with LSU getting so little respect, I am just a bit paranoid of something happening that is basically inconceivable.
I think a more likely scenario is to vote 1. OU 2. USC 3. LSU This increases the likelihood of OU splitting LSU and USC. Look at how 8 coaches still voted OU #1. How many times in the past has a team lost, much less get spanked, and still get 8 #1 votes? I would venture to bet, NEVER. I would also bet this is how Pete Carroll voted (if he got a vote).
Nope. I mean what I say. If OU gets enough votes and gets ahead of LSU, we get screwed. It is in USC's benefit for OU to get as many #1 votes as possible.
