AP Poll in 1958 that is. LSU and Iowa have never played but do have some old history. Our 1958 national champs were number one and Iowa was number two at the end of the 58 season. I believe Iowa was number one sometime during that 1958 season.

'58 had three polls which determined their own National Champions, and I guess it was a lot like it was (is) before the BCS came along and you had the coaches' and the writers. If you didn't agree with one, well, you just hope the other poll voted your team.

LSU won the AP and the UPI vote in '58, and Randy Duncan's Hawkeyes won the FWAA (Football Writers of America Association) Poll.

I don't know if you call that a draw or give LSU the two-to-one edge, but that is why you hear both teams thrown around as National Champion. (and yes, Iowa was number 1 at one time during that season)

    LSU 11-0

    Iowa 8-1-1

LSU was the National Champ that year, no split or draw. If you click on Recognized National Championships at CFN it list Iowa with none. LSU with 2.

Alrighty then. Not trying to flex any muscles, just thought I'd throw the history around to answer the question.

    LSU- 2
    Iowa-0

    Fine.

By CFN, do you mean collegefootballnews.com? If so, were is the link on their home page? I can't seem to find it.
