http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/writers/stewart_mandel/01/02/mandel.sugar/index.html "If they asked us right after the game to go and play, I'd be on the first flight to USC," said Harris. Actually, Oklahoma looked into it. Sooners AD Joe Castiglione said he inquired in mid-December about playing the Trojans in August's season-opening BCA Classic. "We called them when we heard the [Pete Carroll] comment that they'd play anyone, anywhere," said Castiglione. "But they'd already committed to Virginia Tech."
So what??? If they wanna be National Champs, they should do what it takes to back it up. Oh.....I see.....they're "conveniently" commited to Virgina Tech.
Point is you don't call a team out and then don't back it up. Oklahoma answered the call, and USC goes "Sorry, we have Vagina Tech... we were just saying that for 'dramatic effect'"
Yes - LSU still has its opener available. Carrol talks sh** but refuses to back it up. No need to with every tom dick and harry espn pundit hanging on your every word.
Hey, they are in the land of Neverland and Make Believe. Did you really expect the Fruits, Nuts and Flakes to have the balls to back it up?
Yeah, I guess you are right. But it proves how they make hollow claims. If they knew they couldn't back it up, Carroll should have never called out Oklahoma or LSU.
Hey guys, Pete Carroll wanted to back it up but he and the USUCK team have a previous engagement at Neverland.
Nice spin, but not true. We had been hearing about an extra game since at least November, but negotiations had started earlier. The comment by the OU guy is totally self serving. The game was already in the bag when OU supposedly made the offer. Try this link about the same subject on a USC board. http://mb10.theinsiders.com/fuscfansfrm1.showMessage?topicID=34116.topic
So? Marshall backed out of a game to be on ESPN2. Vagina Tech backed out for no reason whatsoever. Seems to me that if USC really wanted this game, they'd find a way to schedule it...
