Anyone Notice Jim Hawthorne for the South Carolina game? When Alley Broussard first entered the game he continually referred to him as Alley Landry... I guess he has been watching too many Doritos commercials. For those of you who do not know who Alley Landry is... She was Miss America about 10 years ago originially from Breaux Bridge... the beautiful woman from the Doritos commercials... I just watched Inside LSU Football and he said it at least the first 4 times he mentioned Alley's name.
Does this guy drink? A Harry K. wanna be. I've wondered who might replace him when his time comes. What do y'all think about Charlie Hannegriff?
I like Jim b/c he loves LSU is enthusiastic etc.... but I have never heard a commentator screw up so much in my life. It's almost every play.
I don't listen to him if I can help it. I'd rather hear the TV announcers. He seems like a good guy, but I find his voice irritating and he seems to make a noticeable number of mistakes. How much does he pay LSU to call the games? Whatever it is, LSU should ask for more money? What does he do during the week to earn money?
I think Hawthorne's calling style, the mix ups, etc add character to the broadcast and make it more enjoyable. My favorite imitation of his game calling is from basketball and goes... "Shot put up by swift, rebounded by beshura, or is that a rebel? No! it's in the hands of LAMONT ROLAND SHOOTS! and it's GOOD! No! in the hands of bright, passes to beshura, down to swift SLAMS IT HOME!!....." Kevin Ford - "I think that original shot was from Jabari" Maybe you're right, man, coach brady is giving that referee heck out there!...
I, personally, find it makes it difficult to listen to! Fortunately, I live 300 miles away, and so I hear a lot of static! Hawthorne's whining, particularly on basketball broadcasts, is very annoying. Rembember the good ole Tim Brando days? "BINGO, BANGO, BONGO!!!" :geaux:
