I assume the 2 SEC CG teams are 1 and 2 even if 1 of the teams could conceivably have more losses than the 2nd best team from the other division? I also assume teams are seeded purely on conference record and not overall record? If Georgia and LSU tie with 2 losses and Tennessee and Auburn goes to SEC CG, is the head to head loss by LSU to Georgia put us 4th seed? Same thing is we tie Florida, are we now ahead of them since we beat them head to head?
There really are no rules...the bowls take whomever they believe will generate the most money in terms of travel, lodging, and ticket sales.
The Sugar gets the SEC champ if they aren't in the National Championship game. The Capital One Bowl gets the first pick of any SEC team that isn't in a BCS bowl. The Cotton Bowl gets the next best team in the SEC West. The Outback Bowl gets the next best team in the SEC East. The Peach Bowl is next. Then the Independence Bowl. Last tie in is the Houston Bowl.
The SEC office has alot of say in the 3-7 selections ... the Cotton Bowl is not the 3rd selection, they have to work with the SEC office as well as the Outback and Peach Bowls for the 3rd selection. Same is true for the 6th and 7th selection. According to secsports.com, it goes like this... 1st Selection ... Sugar Bowl 2nd Selection ... Capital One Bowl 3rd through 5th Selections Peach Bowl Outback Bowl Cotton Bowl 6th and 7th Selections Music City Bowl Independence Bowl 8th Selection ... EV1.net Houston Bowl
I don't know how they determine who gets first pick out of the 3-7 slot but I know that last season the SEC officials were very upset about Florida getting invited to the Outback Bowl instead of Tennessee. Seems as though the 4th team from the SEC is supposed to be in Atlanta and UT was rated over UF for having a better overall record. The SEC guys let the Outback Bowl know it was happy with their ploy.
any bowl committee would give their left testicles to have LSU at their bowl.. we travel as well as any team int eh country.
any bowl committee? you better check the history of the florida bowls passing on LSU for UT or UGA and others in the past for many years now. its fun to think they want us, though.
Actually until recently, LSU had a reputation, whether it was deserved or not, of not traveling to bowl games. I wish Houston had a better bowl, that would be a fun trip around the holidays.
