All I have heard is that it took a bad hit. I have lots of friends and family in the area, and I grew up around Hammond, so I'm worried. I'm especially worried about my cousin in Slidell (and his wife and four kids). Does anyone have any reports about Slidell? Knowing my cousin (who is a like a brother to me), he probably didn't leave.
I read somewhere that the water went over the levee and there is chest deep water up to old spanish trail. I will look for the link and post.
Thanks, I pray that your friends and family are okay. I've been reading http://www.nola.com/forums/rivertownhall/ Someone posted that Slidell was hit pretty badly.
Finally heard from my cousin in Hammond, and he said there are trees down everywhere. Luckily, none hit his house, but there are power lines down all over the place. Making matters worse, his wife went into labor last night. They managed to hold off, but probably can't hold off much longer. Very scary situation.
I've heard it's mostly just wind damage in Hammond - like what NoLimit said with trees & power lines down, same thing in Mandeville area. Slidell is supposedly pretty bad.
Mandeville got the 15 foot storm surge and major flood damage, but not as bad a Slidell & Lacombe. Minor flooding in Madisonville also. Rest of way west to my place in French Settlement wind damage only (trees, power lines, glass)
I have a brother who lives in Ponchatoula, Tom Perrin Rd....ANY info about the area would be really appreciated...God bless you all!
Pontchatoula got wind damage in town, spared from major flooding. South near Manchac washed over and flooded.
I went by Hammond yesterday. Not bad, not bad at all compared to places further east. There was some wind damage with trees down, but not too many. It wasn't like there were trees everywhere, although there were a few. Covington/Mandeville is in much worse shape than Hammond. Trees down EVERYWHERE! You couldn't go 10 feet without a tree being down. Every single neighborhood was ravaged - Covington Country Club, Beau Chen, Beau Rivage, The Sanctuary etc etc. Very little flooding, although the Tchefuncta rose to the neighborhoods right there before Francos, quite a ways inland. The Lake also rose substantially, but you can't get back there yet to see how bad the damage is.
