I agree. South Carolina could actually wind up in Atlanta this year. Even though Steve Spurrier has not always been my favorite coach, at least personality-wise, I believe he is the best game day coach in the SEC, just as he was when at Florida. He does not have to have the best talent to beat you. He showed his coaching skills again in Starkville last year. One play that he devised turned the game totally in his favor at a critical point. Both teams actually played very bad for the most part that evening to open the 2006 College TV season, but that one play nailed the coffin for Mississippi State, especially since we had lost our quarterback on the opening offensive series of the game. If anyone beats him at his stadium this year, it will be a major accomplishment. He actually does have more talent than the pundits realize, and he knows how to use it effectively. Go Dawgs! I am more inclined to believe that Spurrier may play a younger QB, like Chris Smelley, to break him in properly with receivers like Mo Brown. South Carolina is probably a year away from being real good.
But isn't South Carolina always said to be about a year away from being really good? I've heard that since Holtz came in, and in fact, heard it all the time when that mullet-wearing QB named Tanneyhill was around a dozen years ago.
Mitchell has been very inconsistent this fall during camp. Like last year, Spurrier isn't happy with his performance. Also, last season, Syvelle ended up at the QB position for the rest of the season when Mitchell was benched.
I've always thought Mitchell was mediocre--at best. Look for a long year for him with no Rice in the mix.
yall need to get over the spurrier thing. this is south fing carolina. with south carolina talent. they MAY upset someone...but thats it.
Our kicking game will be solid again this year with Ryan Succop returning Our Def line will be even better and have added some depth to boot. This is one thing we have never had much of. Our LB corp is as good as we have ever had. The secondary has a few questions but has experience at some spots and injured players returning. Our RB corp is very solid with Boyd and Davis. Our receivers are ??? McKinnley the 2nd leading receiver is back; but the loss of Sidney Rice has to be filled. Our biggest ??? in my mind is the Oline. If they can pass block effectively then Blake Mitchell will give some teams fits; just has he did in the last 4 games. However if the Oline does not block well; review the Georgia game from last year to review those results. The Cocks will need the football Gods to work with them at the Valley and that does not usually happen. But you got to believe......:thumb:
That's what I'd read.......how are the replacments looking so far? I read about Garrett Anderson, who are the others?
