Been reading up on them. Seems they've been slightly under the radar so far, and cfn's preview of them confirms it. Granted, taking us down in Death Valley will be one tall order, but I think I may just put my money on them to win the East this year. They had razor-thin losses to Florida, Georgia, and UT last year.
I think they are vastly overrated. I know everyone is banking on Spurrier, but their defense is awful and offense is inconsistent. If they have an injury or two they are done. Not to mention the game is at home and we have a decent defense. If I had to pick today I'd say 31-10
This confuses me. Saban, following Dinardo's firing, was able to achieve a winning season in one year (by itself an accomplishment in comparison to past years) and an SEC championship in two. Was Dinardo a lousy coach but good recruiter? The reason I ask is that it seems that one would expect similar success from Spurrier, unless he was left with an empty cupboard by Holtz. Was that the case for Saban, and is that the case for Spurrier?
He's done well in recruiting. South Carolina had talent, just not for Spurriers system. Even with the new recruiting classes, they have lost a couple of key guys to the pros recently and that talent is really young. Not to mention their isnt much depth behind them. They are the type team that can knock off a good team, but wont be consistent enough to do it each week. Only way we lose is if we beat ourselves.
My husband has a $100 bet with a friend that Visor Boy will win a NC in 5 years... He's got 3 years left. I think his friend will get the cash.
See, I'd be inclined to agree with your husband. He is Steve Spurrier after all. But then, USC isn't Florida. If I'd been your husband, I'd have made the same bet but regarding the SEC Championship.
There was good talent at LSU when Dinardo was hear. Just look at all the guys he had while he was hear or that he recruited: Kevin Faulk Alan Feneca Anothony MaFarland Josh Reed Domanick Davis LaBrandon Toefield David Lafluer Cecil Collins Fred Booker Tod McClure Jarvis Green There are others, I just dont feel like looking it up. But the point is, is that there was talent here. Not as much as now, but good talent. I dont think Dinardo was that bad of a coach. His downfall started when he hired Lou Tepper as the DC.
From the smart, educated (okay...i do realize that it is not possible for this special occurance to happen) lamecock fans that I have been talking to, they are all scared of the LSU game and maybe only a few poor souls think that SC will beat LSU. I actually think they have a good shot at the SEC East since Fl, Ga, and SC are all about the same caliber this year.
