A good friend of mine's sister was dating a state trooper who was one of Edward's bodyguards. We all went out partying and drinking with him on a few occasions. He was a wild and crazy guy. One time he broke up a bar fight in some redneck bar in either Livingston or Ascension Parish, I forget where, by sticking his concealed .357 into the main antagonists belly and daring him to move. The guy ended up apologizing and buying us all a round of drinks. Another guy was a fellow student at LSU. He used to sell bags of weed. After college I knew he had become a state trooper but he got promoted after a few years and ended up as one of the TV spokesmen for whenever the State Police had some public service announcement to make.
Don't they do criminal investigations too? I think I've heard of them being in on catching serial killers and drug dealers.
Some states have state police. Ours has troopers. They have their state investigative branch, but other than that... they chase speeders and work wrecks.
From wikipedia Local agencies include municipal police departments and county sheriffs. State law enforcement officers may be called state police, highway patrol or state troopers. In California they call them Chips, or California Highway Patrol.
My dad would love this statement. he was a sheriffs deputy back in the 50s and has no love for state troopers
