Trapping is not the same as is was several years ago. There are better traps and techniques. I rarely ever have a coon chew it's foot off and I have NEVER had any other animal do it. The modern traps cause very little foot damage to the animals. The trapping community knows they have to politically correct to be able to keep trapping so alot of research and testing have gone in to the modern traps. I get very little foot damage to the animals I catch, I am not heartless and I don't want to any animal I catch to suffer. Trapping is a great tool to keep the predators numbers in check. Here is what happens when their populations are too high. They get the mange and die a much worse death than being caught in a steel trap. As you can see there is no damage to this coyotes foot.
