In light of the coaches poll, it looks very much like florida will go to the MNC game. So my question is, do you think there's any chance of the rose picking a USC LSU game over a USC UM game? I don't think there's any chance in the world but maybe I'm wrong. I'm trying to come up with a scenario where we can still play USC in the Rose but I'm coming up with nothing.
I don't think it is impossible but it isn't likely. That would mean Michigan falls to the Cap One or something. I'm sure the Rose wants their traditional match-up and could throw a wrench in the BCS if say Florida wins against Ohio St and Mich whips the hell out of USC. Split Titles again...
I agree. Unfortunately, I think the Rose will stick to it's tradition and take the Pac-10, Big-10 matchup.
Big 10 Pac 10 I can't see it being any other way. But then again, look what's happening. The unthinkable.
My arguement would be...Michigan would be there 3 of the last 4 years I think. Will they travel again? With the hometown USC in I'm sure the area would like some people to travel for the game. We have proved we will go so maybe it comes down to dollars instead of tradition. Anything can happen.
I'd like to first state that I do not think it's going to happen but you never know. I think it would take a deal between the Rose and Sugar for the Rose to pass on UM and take LSU. Here are the factors that might create a situation where LSU goes to the Rose if UF goes to the MNC. Rose factors 1. Rose Bowl realizes that UM will be in the Rose 3 of the last 4 years. 2. A LSU vs USC game would have the novelty of playing the game that should have been in 03 3. LSU has already committed to come in numbers. How will UM travel considering #1? Sugar factors 1. Local team (LSU) would mean less money in hotel reservations, restaurants, bars, etc 2. Should they decide not to take LSU, the other at large teams left do not create very compelling match ups. (Unless the Rose passes on UM) Spoilers 1. This scenario would create a UM vs ND rematch that the Sugar probably doesn't really want. 2. The Rose Bowl is very big on tradition and UM vs USC is a perfect traditional match up for them
Thats a great analysis, and i think the spoilers will probably trump the others. Although it does seem like Mich-USC in the rose bowl happens a lot. LSU-USC would defintely be osmething new and would probably get more ratings I think. Although they want a big/pac 10 matchup, in this new day of the BCS, teams like Oklahoma and Texas already have played in the Rose Bowl. That big/pac 10 is a thing of the past and they need to put the best matchup, whcih is LSU-USC, because like someone else said in another thread...its probably the greatest rivalry that never happened  .
I dont see it but a couple of posters on variosu boards are syaing an espn radio show thought rose was still going to take lsu and louisville would go to sugar with michigan in orange. dont see it happening
Yes, us going to the Rose would mean either Sugar or Orange for UMich- they will not go to a non-BCS bowl considering how highly they are ranked. They will not go to the Sugar. I think that the one matchup everyone may have overlooked- Orange hosting WF vs. UMich and a storyline-driven USC vs. LSU. This would be a matchup that the nation has been wanting to see for three years, even though this would have no impact on the results from the 2003 season. This goes back to Onepete, etc. On top of that, LSU has shown how much it wants to play this game- the fanbase bought all the tickets in a matter of days. The BCS is definately entertaining the option, possibly even considering it the top option.
