Charles Alexander busted up his knee in practice and is OUT for the South Carolina game and more.

Good thing we have dominant depth at the D-tackle position with Favorite and Woods.

Damn! I hate to hear that. What is going on (3 tigers out and its only the 3rd game!) 2 were lost in practice. Is this a strength and conditioning issue?
I wish them a quick recovery cause we will need them.

Alexander is out for the season according to WBRZ. Tough loss.

What are the chances of landing a medical redshirt on Alexander? Is the 3rd games still an indicator, meaning if he hasnt playerd over 3 games it is easier to qualify for one?

You can get a medical waiver if you are injured during the first half of the season AND you have not played in more than 20% of the games, which is 3 games. However, he redshirted his first year, so the NCAA would have to make an exception to give him a sixth year.

I know the NCAA has granted these exceptions in the past and given players an extra year. The OU QB (White?) comes to mind. I have no idea what the criteria is, but it is different for someone who already redshirted.

I think there are also some academic requirements for getting a "medical redshirt" (a term not actually found in the rulebook). I think there's also a limit on the number of snaps a person can take. Honestly though, there's little chance Alexander will accept a 6th year of eligibility unless it is determined he doesn't have much of an NFL future. I'd love to have him back, but it seems unlikely since he's good enough to shop his wares in the NFL.

I dont see him applying for another redshirt. If he doesnt recover close to 100% he isnt going to play much here anyway. If he does recover 100% then he has the NFL. Either way I dont see another redshirt just from that perspective.

Lets face it, this is a setback but a minor one at best. We wont be taking any shirts off anyone. We have plenty of depth along the line and the others will step up. We've got the players, they are just gonna play a little more than they were.

This is going to hurt our D in the 4th. That is what has been so great about LSU's D is that we have enough depth for rotation throughout the game and can make a push in the 4th.

ESPN did deal on Saban how he is conditioning Bama to play tough in the 4th qtr. That is a good thing him and Moffett worked on at LSU and Moffett is doing a good job at continuing that. I hope never leaves.
