How many years have we been planning for this transition?...and NOW we need to delay it because some people are not prepared. Thankfully the Republicans blocked the delay although Obama and the Democrats are fighting to change that. Lack of responsibility should not be a reason for our government to get involved. I guess if some people lose access to the major networks, they may actually have to use their own brain instead of being told what to think. I answered my own question! That's why the Democrats are so concerned. :thumb: I wonder how long it takes without television before the brainwashing starts to wear off.
they never should have gotten involved in the first place. if the networks want to go all digital, let them. if they say phuck it we're staying analog, so be it.
It has to do with what the govt. is trying to use analog signals for. There is a reason its a required change and not because its the "wave of the future." It has nothing to do with the major stations and their affiliates "wanting" to go to a digital signal.
All the government agencies, first responders, emergency equipment, etc. is ready for the transition. It all comes down to a small group of people who are not prepared. Due to this, the world should stop turning until the federal goverment can rescue these poor, unfortunate souls. Once again, without the leadership of the "chosen" few none of us could survive. Some of these politicians need to get over themselves and realize we survived before them...and we'll continue to survive once their gone!
I essentially agree. This has been coming for years and a date had to be chosen. This digital move opens up lots of new bandwidth that is badly needed on the crowded radio spectrum. New enterprises and capabilities are on hold until this happens. On the other hand, the government underestimated the number of converters needed and a short delay to enable citizens to get the additional vouchers that are coming isn't that big of a deal. But they need to be decisive, move quickly, get it done, and move on.
Here's something I've been wondering about the switch... I was in Baton Rouge when Gustav hit, and the whole time our power was out, we ran a TV on a generator and put rabbit ears on top. We were able to pick up WBRZ and WAFB. After the switch happens to all-digital, will that not be possible anymore?
my understanding is that you can pick up a digital signa over the air (antenna). the question is if your TV will recognize and play it. if your TV doesn't, there is a box that'll convert the signal from digital to analog so your TV will play it
we've been having similar questions here. small battery operated analog tv's were cheap for several years. and a battery operated tv is a good thing to have in a tornado shelter. but the battery operated digital tv's are still a couple of hundred dollars, and not everyone can afford that just to throw into a tornado shelter for emergencies.
