Love not your dads, but the store was out. Trying best damn, and it's like toothpaste. Come to my house and you can have the remaining 5.
I've never had alcoholic root beer, other than this past weekend when I mixed some of the Spiced Bayou Rum with some root beer that I had (wasn't a brand name root beer, something bottled that I happened to have in the fridge leftover from a Cousins Lobster food truck). It was pretty good.
Apparently there is a big craze for this stuff up North. Friend in Indy said he has to go to several grocery stores to find one that didn't see out of it as soon as restocked.
I tried the Abita version (think it was called Bayou Bootlegger) last night for the 1st time at our local Taste of the Town. It was pretty good, couldn't really tell that there was alcohol in it. Not sure what kind of alcohol. My mom bought a couple of Abita 6-packs (beer) over the holidays and said she almost got some Abita root beer for my kids but it was $9 for a 6-pack so she got something else instead. I'm guessing that was the Bayou Bootlegger and she almost unintentionally introduced my kids to alcohol. My eldest is 12 yrs old and has never taken a sip of any kind of alcohol. By the time I was that age, I'm pretty sure that my parents had given me a sip of their alcoholic drinks at least a couple of times.
Abita does make a root beer and it is really good. I would guess if they are now making an "adult" root beer that one would have to be pretty good as well. I like everything they do besides the jackamo.
