    I just don't like it.
    Who investigates Congress?
Especially when they give themselves pay raises?
Do they have better things to do then continually stick their noses in sports?

If you don't know by now I don't like Congress or the way our political system
    now functions.
I know its the best in the world but they don't get anything done most of
    the time.
I need their kind of job similar to a weatherman.
Their priorities are way out of whack if you ask me

Well, I don't like the way they do it, either. But considering that people fret over how to pay for college tuition and then these coaches are pulling down $3M+ contracts, it's enough to start public outcry. There isn't as much public outcry over congressional pay raises because the average citizen can't name their congressional representatives let alone seem to care about what they make...unless those representatives show up on E! at a Hollywood function.

Besides, Public outcry=congressional members' opportunity to get votes. Just have a very publicized hearing and say the right words and it earns votes.

The inquiry can only really look at the tax exempt status of booster organizations (such as TAF and AMABs Tide Pride) that pay most of the freight in these contracts. These organizations essentially exist to support only the athletic departments of the schools, but they get the priveledge of operating under the the same non-profit rules the rest of the university does. No one can seriously say that LSU or AMAB football is "non-profit".

Now when the LSU athletic department gives millions back to the school at the end of the year, it shows that LSU still has some integrity regarding the link between athletics and academics. But most schools actually lose money on athletics and become a drain on the general fund.

I wouldn't be surprised if Congress revokes the non-profit status of the funds, since they can remove a deduction from "the rich". Saban's hiring only moves that train a little further, but it was already being proposed last year.

There's very little new to the story.

Just what we need a bunch of liberal dems. deciding how much we pay our coaches. Nothing would make them happier than to have every division 1 school finish 6 and 6,have a black head coach, change the rules where nobody ever wins a game and everyone on the team gets to play.typical liberal communist ploy.one for all and all for one.The 85 scholarship rule leveled the playing field but does not gaurantee that a schools program will be in the black financially. BAMA athletic prog.took in 74million last year with only 23m coming from selling out 92,000 seats every week. the rest from boosters and donations. Saban salary cost taxpayers ZERO. If a school is willing to ante up for excellence and has the chips to do it ,so be it... What really peas me off is no one said a word about STOOPS Making 3.5m, Weis making 3.35m Carrol 3m.etc.etc...By the way enjoyed watching you take the irish to the woodshed. Im still smarting because they cost us 2 National Championships back in 66 and 73.:angryfire

could you imagine if it was some other coach 4 years ago that was getting this huge contract. right before Saban won the NC and the clause saying he would then be the highest paid coach.

could LSU even afford to pay him that much? what would happen if they couldnt? are there any other coaches that have something like that?

im sure theres got to be some clauses stating coaches have to be within a certain % of the highest paid, or in the top 5 highest paid.
