I liked what Bo was doing on defense. I kept commenting on the defense the entire 1st half. "I can't believe he is blitzing so much". So I went and watched the 1st half again and it still holds true. He blitzed a whole lot and used the 4-3 soft zone very little. Maybe once every 6 downs. They would fake blitz, delay blitz, send 6 at once or 5 with a 6th on delay. It was catching the O-line and QB off guard and kept them confused. The results were great. The offense was terrible in the 1st half. The offense scored after a UT fumble deep in UT territory, then Addai ran it in. We were gifted a defensive TD, and the other TD was the only progress the Offense made. That short drive was the only time the offense had anything going. The rest of the time it was 3 and out in the 1st half and the 2nd. I will say good job for Bo in the 1st half. But the conservatism in the 2nd half was terrible and that was the coaches fault. It wasn't due to cramps, it wasn't due to blown assignments (although that happened) but it was coaching. At least we know Bo can learn the ASU lesson for the 1st half. Lets hope he can remember those lessons for 4 qtrs. Miles has plenty of lessons to learn too. I suspect if the team plays well and gets a lead on MSU that he will continue to pound them and score. At least he better.
I agree with you that the d looked great in the 1st half, but they had to be complety done mid way of the fourth and you could telll they were on the field most of the first half and all of the second half. even on the scoring drives the o did not use any time. And that is something to worry about since miles is suppose to be a offence minded coach maybe we can find some kind of identy sat :geauxtige
The only encouraging thought i get from watching the defense on monday is that the run defense is pretty damn good... if we can shore up the pass defense we will be set on that side of the ball.. my concern is the offense... you cant win games when your offense is on the field less than your opponent...
It is not insignificant that the defense played with several starters out and in the locker room getting IVs for cramps in the second half. I hold this cramping thing to be a major factor in the defensive drop-off in the second half. Our best guys were not always in there. Are the trainers not keeping these players hydrated properly? Is it something else? I don't know if the coach spoke about this last night.
Could have been a Sunday night party to celebrate the first Monday night game in the history of LSU :thumb:
the cramps were so insignificant, Bo Boloney should have been able to suit up you and sabanfan and held on to win.
I would say they wouldn't. None of us remember anything like this from 99-00 when saban brought his staff in here, because defensive lapses are normal when your players are not up to snuff. This coaching staff is simply not prepared for the types of conditions being experienced out there on the field. It's a lot different than Stoolwater/Nebrazka/Meechigan. When I can drink a 44Oz Big Gulp and not have to attend the bathroom the entire game after simply walking around on campus for a couple of hours...
