1. I appears to me in the frist 3 games that the team and the coaches are playing Not to lose. Instead of Playing to win. That was something last year that we did every game. Every time we steped on the field we were playing to WIN. Now it seems that we are so scaried of losing that we are not taking the chances or creating the plays that powered us last year.

And it can be said that this team is not as talanted as last years team , but I don't believe that they are that far from each other. To me and this is just my opinion it seems that the game play mind set of the coaches has changed.

It seems like the fire is gone outta the play calling. It seems like hey lets just run, run, run, punt, instead of trying to increase the lead.
This is again just what I have seen and is totally my opinion, don't wanna get labled again as knowing more the the Million Dollar man.

I do still stick by my statements though that Saban is making a big mistake with this 2 QB B.S.
  2. Part of the problem is JR doesn't have the offense mastered yet so they have to water
    down the offense somewhat.
I'm a little puzzled why we had Alley running over people on the outside and we go away from it, I know you can't run that play on every down but we never went back
    to it down the stretch.

I do think that we can't take as many chances yet this year because if the offense screws up and turns over the ball and the other team scores.
The offense doesn't have the confidence right now to be able to know they can overcome it.
Our QB's situation is fragile at best right now.

There is no doubt we are playing it safe and probably play that way until offense finds
    a groove.
I just wish we would've tried Alley running the ball more, he was more effective than
    JV IMHO.

I think the 2 QB system is fine but if MR starts and takes us on an 80yd scoring drive
you don't take him out of the game when he's in a groove.

We have to have the 2 QB system because neither guy is consistant enough to start
every game, so you don't have a starter, you have player 1 and player 2.

You go with the QB that is hot or getting things done for that game!
  3. I agree with some of the things you said. There's some truth.

No, our offensive play calling is not as aggressive. But that's in large part to the fact that we don't have the same QB. Randall is in the Herb Tyler mold: Best suited rolling out looking to the TE, or QB draws, or options. And it goes without saying that our other option at QB is an inexperienced redshirt Freshman with tramendous talent--but again, no experience.

In order to bring along a rookie QB, you have to scale down the playbook a bit. That's just a fact. Will it stay simple? No way! But you have to bring him along slowly--can't ask him to do too much too soon.

I also agree with you on the rotating QB situation. But I don't think Saban feels differently that you and I. Saban was hoping that one of the QB's would step up and take charge--but neither has (at least up until yesterday's game, IMO). After yesterday's game, INT to end the game aside, I think Russell showed enough to warrant starting vs Miss State next week--and play in it's entirety.
  4. Right. Because he impressively drove our offense down the field 80 yards for our only TD of the game. Oh wait, no that was Randall.

Russell showed nothing yesterday that we didn't already know. He's a big kid with a huge arm. That's about it. Hate to break it to you but he didn't play that well. Randall wasn't great either after the first drive, but he scored our only TD. Plus, Randall's mobility got him out of some situations and let him pick up yards when Russell just went down. In fact, one could argue that if Randall had been in istead of Russell, he might have been mobile enough to keep some of those drives alive.

You Russell guys need to get over it. He looks like he'll be great one day, but he ain't there yet. And you don't throw away a season after game 3 just to give a young QB experience for next year. That's just plain ignorant. Neither QB is getting the protection they need to stand in the pocket and make long pass plays, and that's really all Russell has looked impressive doing to this point. He needs to play some and get some more experience, but we also need Randall's scrambling ability until our O line starts protecting better and Russell becomes more consistent.

  5. That may be true that neither guy has stepped up but how can they when they don't have a whole game to get in a groove.
2 QB systems have always failed, ALWAYS. A team needs a starter weither he is the best guy or not. It helps bulid the team.

If the reason that they are doing the 2 QB system is to bring Russell along, then the coaching staff is already playing for next year, and this one will be a good one at best.

Pick one win or lose, its better then losing when you can't make up your mind.
  6. Cliche city. Anyone care to explain the difference between not losing and winning?
  7. ...

The game was actually one of the best I've seen in awhile. Aubarn got a couple of big plays at the end and we didn't. We the fans have the luxury of seconding guessing the play calling. Believe me I did it all day yesterday. I would of liked to see Randall get more playing time. But if, I believe it was Doucet, the receiver catches the ball at the end we would be talking about how great this offense is and how much better it is going to be. It was one hell of a football game. We just came up one point short.
  8. okay

    Look at it this way.

When you play to win you play every down like you are trying to put points on the board. Not like you are trying to run out the clock and keep the ball outta the hands of the other team.

You can't play scaried, thats how we looked aganist AU. If you make plays that give you the oppertunities to score then you don't have to worry about the other team. If the goal is to get six everytime when you break the huddle, and not "don't run out of bounds so the clock doesn't stop" the other team isn't even a factor.

Right now the only team that can beat LSU is LSU, and we all saw that yesterday.

  9. Don't you think that means that if our recievers are having problems catching the ball that maybe just maybe the timing between the qb and recievers are off. AND that maybe just maybe that could be because there isn't one guy starting weither or not he is the best one. Its not the recievers fault hell its not even the qb's fault.

I'll say it I will say what alot of people are thinking but are scaried to say.

IT IS THE COACHES FAULT WE LOST YESTERDAY. Plain and simple. Stop blaming these kids its not their fault. Saban needs to nut up and pick a starter and stop all the maddness. Win or lose just pick one and lets play.

By doing this he is sending mixed signals to his team and the rest of the coaching staff.
Do what you will to me burn me at the stake for calling out the almighty coach, but he is screwing up so far this year. And thinks wont turn around until a starter is named.
  10. Time will tell if this aubarn defense is avg. It looked pretty good against a very good LSU offensive line. Butt, I guess that was the play calling.
