Tappy, first of all thanks for coming in with a cool attitude and some very good points.
I would like to compare things a little differntly, because comparing 1 team's DL to the other team's DL is about as useful as tits on a board.
AL DL & LB vs LSU OL & RB: Advantage LSU - This is one of the best O lines in the country, and our fullbacks can crush anyone in their way. Yes, you guys have some very large linebackers but they will wear down from chasing our speed sideline to sideline; then comes the power running game down their throat. Spencer Ware and Kenny Hilliard can take on those big fellas at LB. - Wrong... The two fastest RB's in the nation (Demps, and Rainey) were held to 15 yards. We also shut one of the biggest, most bruising running backs in the SEC down, Ronnie Wingo Jr... So don't say that we can be out ran or over powered. There is a clear size, and strength advantage to our LB's vs your RB's.
AL OL & RB vs LSU DL & LB: Stalemate - On the interior you guys have a slight edge, but we are faster on the edges. Richardson will get some yards, but he will not run free on this defense. He will probably steam roll one of our LBs at some point though, as much as I hate to say it. - You pointed our the Key in this matchup... Trent vs your LB's... That is all I will say about it. IF LSU shuts down our running game, they will be the first to do it, and hats off!
AL Passing vs LSU 2ndary: Big Advantage LSU - McCarron is going to be confused by some of the defensive schemes and will throw some picks. This LSU secondary smothers receivers and creates turnovers. - I will give that LSU secondary one pick, MAYBE. McCarron takes what the D gives him, and is a mirror or Greg McElroy... He doesn't make mistakes. The thing I wory about is, will he be given anything to take. This is gonna be tough on him, and I am interested to see which of our receivers steps up. I think TE play is gonna have to be huge in this game for us.
LSU Passing vs AL 2ndary: Slight Advantage LSU - Our running game sets up play action very well. The key will be for our OL to give Lee enough time to read his progression. I fully expect to see some new plays that will create big gains for us. - I agree with the advantage, and I agree that LSU is gonna find the end zone through the air, or maybe a short run on the goal line, which was set up with a long ball. I just feel like LSU is going to get very one dimensional in this game, not being able to run the ball, and we will eventually shut down the pass.
Special Teams: This is another big advantage for LSU, in all aspects. This is where we will win the battle of field position, and it will be a critical part of the ballgame. - Third down play, and consistent drives are going to be a big factor in this.
Team Depth: Big Advantage LSU. I really cannot say enough about this and how it plays to our advantage. There have been quit a few games for AL this year where they were held close in the first half but your opponents' lack of depth provided you with easy wins. That is NOT the case here. We will be rotating guys all game long at every position and will wear you out. - Overall Alabama has more depth than LSU. There are areas where LSU is deeper than Alabama, but if you look at the depth charts, Alabama has more experience/depth overall. I agree that LSU is deep, but they don't have the physical strength that comes along with the depth like Bama. They will get worn down... IMO... I could be completely wrong about how that works out.
*I think 1 major downfall for all of the Bama fans and analysts right now is that they are putting way too much stock in Trent Richardson. He is a great back, no doubt, but he is not unstoppable. - I don't put all the stock into him... He creates the balance that is our offense. If we didn't have the rest to go along with him, we wouldn't be where we are now.
My prediction:
LSU 34 Bama 17
