McCallister was a freshman in 97, Cutcliffe was hired Dec. 98, right before UT won the NC. According to this morning's reports, some players are happy, others are pissed. Interesting what Buckles had to say. After the Arkansas game he came out in the local paper talking about stupid play calling and such, now it sounds like he is trying to take up for Cut. Also looks like Zook and Willingham head the wish list. http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20041203/SPORTS030103/412030369/1025 Between phone calls, Boone met with members of the team for the first time since Cutcliffe's dismissal. Several players outraged by Cutcliffe's firing peppered Boone with angry comments and questions in the 50-minute meeting at the team's indoor practice facility.
Wouldn't it be ironic if Willingham takes the Ole Miss job? Then 2 of the only 3 African-American college football coaches would reside in arguably the most racially devided state in the union.
The last two B-Ball coaches have been black. And the AD Boone is the guy who pushed the doing away with Col Reb. They also officially scrapped the Rebel flag a while back. I definitely see Boone going after Willingham. A good coach and it would help counter the edge MSU gained in hiring Croom as far as in state recruiting. I don't think they get him though. More likely Zook, and if not him they either go after the guy at USC Ergeron (sp) or maybe even Neuheisal.
yeah, that's right. He was a TT recruit. I stand corrected. I guess the point I was trying to make was that Cut. did have a stand-out back while he was there, even though he didn't recruit him
you are arguably WRONG, I've lived in Lousiaina, Texas, Tenn, and have travled the US extensively through work. TEXAs is WAy more racial than MS. Los Angeles is WAY more racial than MS. Georgia, MS, Ala, and yes Louisiana are about the same. None of those states general attitudes are 10 cents different from the other. Ole Miss is no more racial than alabama or LSU. OLe Miss' ICONS might have it's ROOTS in the old south, but when you talk about people's attitude's racism is everywhere. Indeed most racism I see these days is from Black americans. Tenn. is probably the least racial, while Texas seems to be the most. Now that's just my .02 cents, certainly I haven't done a "study" or anything. But you are wrong. We have several black families that attend church with our mostly white congregation and there are no problems whatsoever. Indeed they are very welcome and fine people no matter what their skin color. If you know anything you do know that churches are the "most" segregated segment of the population.
I can't imagine Orgeron going to Ole Miss. A bayou boy from Lafourche Parish running that program. Archie would have a heart attack.
Growing up in Louisiana, I was always intrigued by the fact that the last hideaways for segregation were the churches.......and the bars.
Fanatic, I still don't understand your point. You were responding to Cutcliffes ability to recruit. What does it matter that he had a stand out back that he didn't recruit. If you remember there was a lot of controversy in how he shared time between Duece and Joe Gunn....same as how he shared time with Flat, Spurlock and Lane. I watched in amazement at how he would rotate QB's this season...not a series here or a series there....but during a series he would change QB's. Cutcliff was still evaluating QB's during a game. Look at the UM/UT game. It took an end of the game drive for SEC East Champion Tennessee to beat Ole Miss. That game would have been a "W" in my opinion if Cutcliffe would have managed his QB play better. Cutcliffe's biggest flaw was his ability to make game time adjustments....
