I never get on the Free Speech Alley anymore so excuse me if this kind of stuff is constantly posted.... I had the chance to speak with someone that just returned from Iraq. He was a soldier for the first half of his stay and then a civilian worker the next half of his stay in Iraq. He had a lot of interesting insights into whats really going on in Iraq: - He says it is very dangerous. - He says that he cannot even begin to describe the improvements that have gone on since we've been there. He said we have set up educational programs for the Iraqi kids that were never there when they first got there. - He said from watching the news and being there that the media glorifies all the deaths but has seemed to ignore alot of positives things he saw. - He said that it would take longer than anyone thought, but that they have made so much progress already that it would be waste to get out now. He says that Iraqi's came up to him everyday and thanked for what we are doing for them. I thought it was very interesting to talk to him. He doesn't make the claim that it is all rosy and perfect over there. He reiterated several times how dangerous it was and the fact that he lost several people he knew. But he couldn't be more adament about how much progress we had made and how many great things that they had done for the Iraqis. I asked him that knowing everything he knows today would he still go and is it still worth everything we went through: He said, "absolutely."
If only stories like his would make news and people would understand all of the good we are doing over there. But sadly, it seems the media will continue to be content with villifying this war and the President. Is it me or do others sometimes get the feeling that there are many who want us to fail in Iraq? :dis:
I honestly think that there are some liberal senators and legislators who, for political reasons, want us to fail in Iraq. I'm not saying that the left wants people to die, but I do get the feeling that some of radical left hopes we don't suceed.
