Generally when you have two evenly matched teams and one has higher standings in the NCAA stats, it just indicates they've played an easier schedule so far. Georgia and S. Carolina both were ranked higher than the Vols across the board in most stat categories. Lets face it, LSU has beaten one team with a winning record this season and that was La. Lafayette, anybody could have good stats with a schedule like that. That said, both the Vols and Tigers have talented teams and it should be a nail-biter, but trying to predict the winner from the NCAA's stats is just silly.
Yeah, we lost to two top 10 teams on the road....you make it sound like we lost to a team ranked 20th or something...
Well....lets look at the SEC Stats here for a min. Compare apples to apples a little better!! Scoring Offense LSU = 1 UT = 2 Scoring Defense LSU = 1 UT = 8 Pass Offense LSU = 2 UT = 1 Pass Defense LSU = 1 UT = 6 Rushing Offense LSU = 3 UT = 10 Rushing Defense LSU = 2 UT = 8 Total Offense LSU = 1 UT = 2 Total Defense LSU = 1 UT = 7 There are plenty more like this on www.secsports.com
Tennessee's schedule..... Air Force 3-4, Marshall 3-5, Memphis 1-7 (Want to talk about "Padded stats")? South Carolina & Alabama have "Winning records" and they are good teams but not the same caliber as Auburn, Florida. Georgia? Georgia's offense had 128 points in 5 games before Tenn game and 48 of those were against W. Kentucky (They did score more than our offense against Fla. but we fumlbed a snap on the one and - as lame as it sounds, we didn't play close to our potential). The lost to Vanderbilt for Christ sakes. But all those stats, and who did what to whom don't mean **** when the ball gets teed up Sat. We'll take care of all the smack on the field. I'm kind of surprised, with all that confidence, why there are so many Vol fans here having to tell us how good they are...... when you're good, you don't have to go around telling everyone. We recognize Tenn. is good and I think everyone would agree that it should be a good game but our defense will win it for us. I hope you are all man enough to come back after the game to eat crow.
you're right of course LSU has clearly done much better against tougher competition. Sorry, I ever suggested that your stats might be slightly inflated by playing the 54th toughest schedule in the country according to that same NCAA site, compared to our stats which have of course been grossly pumped up by playing an over-rated 10th toughest schedule. I only hope we don't embarrass ourselves too badly by being on the same field as a team which has historically dominated us with 5 wins since the founding of college football.
