Remember when Rush Limbaugh got skewered for his comments about Donovan McNabb?

Remember Spike Lee's comments concerning Larry Bird this past week on NBA Showtime?

You don't? You didn't hear about it, you say? Neither did I, until the Reveille gave it editorial play this week. Apparently, Lee, an avowed racist who prides himself on intimidating inter-racial couples in public, recently called Bird "the most over-rated basketball player of all time" and stated that Bird would have been nothing special and gotten no attention had he been black, and owed all the attention he got to his color.

Not a peep did I hear from the national media over this. Was Lee crucified for what he said in the same way Limbaugh was? Of course not. Lee can say anything he wants about anybody. Only white people are made to choke on the bit of political correctness and cultural deference.

There is a double standard. And now it is known far and wide, because of the example of Rush Limbaugh, that the leftist media, even in sports circles, absolutely will not tolerate the goring of their sacred PC oxen.

It is truly sad that absolutely no freedom of thought on the issues of race will be tolerated. Some things just cannot be discussed frankly in our society for fear of stepping on someone's toes, and race is probably the worst of these things. The problem will never get better until some people let their walls down and open up to a little critical analysis.

Lee thinks Bird was over-rated, fine. I think Bird's accomplishments speak for themselves. Let's talk about it and see what the facts are.

Limbaugh thinks the media establishment has a little hope invested in McNabb and adores him because they like to see a black quarterback winning, even when he's not playing that well. EVIL RACIST BIGOT LIAR NAZI!!!!! SHUT UP!!!! SHUT UP!!!!! SHUT UP NOW!!!!!!

Is that not how it really is?

i saw the spike lee thing, and immediately thought of limbaugh.

definitely a double standard. there are politically correct lists of groups you cant make certain statements about. you can call out white guys if you want.

for instance i think jason sehorn is overly hyped because of his race. i can say that. whites are not on the irrational protection list. i cannot make the exact same statement and replace sehorn's name with a black athlete.

ultimately i just don't think racism is any wronger than any other ignorant viewpoint. if you told me you hate redheads, i dont think you are "wrong" or bad at all, just kinda dumb. but everything has to be so politiclly charged if it involves groups on the PC list.

i actually do not think racism is wrong at all, it amuses me. i am glad spike lee has the guts to, and is allowed to speak his mind.

I think we are all in agreement on this one guys. In my experience blacks are the biggest racists of all. How often do we hear them crying," Don't judge me by my color, I want to be treated equally." But then who hollers loudest about taking their race into consideration when applying for a job or scholarships or something else, ala affirmative action. So much for the best qualified person for the position.

I remember growing up on La. Ave. and 19th St., the dividing line between the white and black neighborhoods was 17th St. As a white kid I better never go on the other side of it cause I was gonna get my ass kicked if I went into "their territory".

It just burns me up to hear the blacks gripe when I see how the Indians were treated. Take it somewhere else, people, 'cause I don't want to hear it!

Ok, let me clarify that for those that can only think in generalizations instead of being able to use deductive reasoning. NOT ALL, BUT MANY BLACKS...........................!

To counterpoint and be pc, NOT ALL, BUT MANY WHITES ARE RACISTS!

I understand what he's saying, too...I think a better way to put it would be to say that I know far more black people who make race a primary issue than I do white people who do.

The black lady who cleans my house swears that Mike Foster is in the KKK and that he held Klan meetings in the governor's mansion.

She also says that Derrick Todd Lee didn't kill all those women because black people don't do that kind of crime.
