I hope everyone will check this out for yourself and decide about the Terry Schiavo case. This is also what happens when Dr. Death does what he did and people support him, like Nazi Germany, Life means less and less everyday! Our government and congress should get involved because no longer can the judges or the justice system do their jobs properly and it shows. To many lawyers in the world, judges with agendas. http://www.blogsforterri.com/archives/2005/02/video_conversat.php Go to hell Michael Shiavo!! :angryfire :angryfire Anyone in favor of killing or starving this woman now? :dis: A new low in our society! :dis:
I'd have to agree. It's amazing how people with an agenda can throw a smokescreen over issues and confuse everyone. The judges here in Florida are as bad as they get. Don't forget the distinguished Supreme Court of the Great State of Florida also overturned a lower court's decision in regard to the Gore/Bush election fiasco. It's really disgraceful what is allowed to take place in this country.
Jeez SD, why take shots at an entire profession? I understand your frustration with the situation, but I can't for the life of me figure out how the Schiavo case means there's too many lawyers!?
Well, obviously, this is of a similar vein of arguments as abortion. Personally, i'm in favor of both abortion and euthanasia.
These are my questions I present as a pharmacist and law student. Can you honestly say that she is alive? Meaning, at what point are you dead? Who is being selfish in this case? Is it Michael becuase he wants closure or is the parents who refuse to let go of the shell of their daughter? Is it more humane to euthanize her or to let her waste away in a hospital bed for the next 10, 15, 20 years? Who is paying for this person to live? Personally I can tell you right now that a 24 hour TPN bag cost around 2-4 thousand dollars. That is at least $730,000 to feed her a year. This does not include all other expenses in the hospital. The ultimate question is "Would you want to be Terry?" No flames, just reasonable answers. It is a tough decision but sometimes you just have to accept the fact that things will not get better. When you ask a federal court to step in then you are asking to set a precident. How will that precident affect people in the future is a scary thought, no matter which way the court rules.
If I hear anything at all from that it's PAIN. The father, bless his heart, is structuring his questions on the fly, to match Terri's autonomic gutteral reflexes. The woman has no cerebral cortex, which means she can't think, can't perceive, can't have emotions, can't have dreams. This case is no different from hundreds of other cases, except that the Schindlers want to morbidly hang on to their shell of a daughter. I can't help it... it reminds me of Stephen King and Pet Sematary.
I agree with flabengal, this is exactly how i feel. I took a shot at lawyers because there is too many, so many that the frivolous law suits go on forever, many lawyers become judges I believe. Tigertail Exactly!!! At what point do we know she is alive or dead? You are correct, do we know the answer to this? When you die you turn blue, I believe! Rex, If she feels pain, Is the proper thing to do is to starve this person or woman to death? People think, starving a person, woman or thing to death the answer? We don't do that to the worst people in our society! 1 more thing, On 850 KOA in Denver, I heard a preview about a person that was as bad or worse off than Terri Shavio and made a recovery. You take it as a grain of salt, hopefully I can find a link or the story. Food for thought!
At first, I was all for letting this woman die, but not by starvation. Now, I'm not sure I know enought to make an informed opinion. Does she or doesn't she have any cognizant ability? I don't kow, but if she does, then she should live. Saying that though, I am for euthanasia for people who have terminal illnesses or no brain pattern activity. I don't believe in starving them unless they're heavily sedated and don't feel any pain, but I do believe they they have a right to die to end needless suffering when the outcome is no longer in doubt.
You are sadly mistaken. It is a fact that we do this routinely, and legally, in this country. Doctors are not allowed euthanize, so the only option families have is to request the removal of feeding tube. The issue here is not about removing the feeding tube from Terri, it's about who has the right to order such removal in the absence of a living will. The spouse has legal authority to make this decision. Now our government is stepping in and suggesting that the spouse should not have legal authority to make this decision. You may like what our government is doing on the surface, but it is yet one more example of our government sticking its nose where it don't belong. Do you honestly want our government to remove and/or restrict a spouse's legal authority? There is a reason we have marriage licenses in this country. If the issue was as simple as removing the feeding tube, then Congress could have easily passed a law making it illegal to remove a feeding tube which would result in death. They didn't do that. Careful what you ask for...
good post...i am mostly concerned with a precedent being set by the federal court. If this goes through then imagine the ramifications it will have on who has the legal authority to speak for the spouse. I mean think about it this way, aren't there some things that you speak to your significant other that you wouldn't do so with your parents. Even if the federal court agrees with the removal of the feeding tube, there is no way on God's green earth that the Supreme Court will hear this case.
