i watched four different major CFB shows on tv, plus listened to ESPNradio and everybody was buzzing about how impressed they are with LSU's performance on 8/31/13, not even Clemson got as much love for their big win. what make it even sweeter is that Bama, aTm, and Georgia are all in meltdown mode this week: Bama had some big issues, aTm's Manziel is getting universally bashed for his immaturity, and Georgia lost their season opener

    Consider the following:

--LSU outgained TCU 448 yards to 259 and 26 first downs to 13

--the 448 yards LSU put up on TCU was the 3rd most anybody has put up on a TCU defense in at least the last six years (last 78 games since the beginning of the 2007 season). #1 was 2011 Baylor -- which was the #2/#4 offense in the nation that year, led by 2011 Heisman-winner Robert Griffin III

--the 448 yards LSU's offense put up on TCU was the 6th-most LSU has put up on a major opponent in the last five years (last 66 games since the beginning of the 2008 season). the only major opponents LSU put up more than 448 yards on since the beginning of the 2008 season were:
    497 -- Georgia 2008 (L 38-52)
    494 -- Arkansas 2011 (W 42-10)
    470 -- Ole Miss 2010 (W 43-36)
    458 -- Ole Miss 2011 (W 52-3)
    453 -- Florida 2011 (W 41-11)
and the only minor opponents LSU put up more than 448 yards on since the beginning of the 2008 season were:
    508 -- North Texas 2012
    474 -- WKU 2011
    472 -- Idaho 2012
    459 -- Appy State 2008
    455 -- Tulane 2009

--the 197 yards rushing LSU put up on TCU was the 5th-most anybody has put up on a TCU defense in at least the last six years (last 78 games since the beginning of the 2007 season).

--the 259 yards LSU's D held TCU to was the 4th-lowest number of total yards TCU's offense has had in a game in at least the last six years (last 78 games since the beginning of the 2007 season).

--the 11 first downs LSU's D held TCU to was the 3rd-lowest number of 1st downs TCU's offense has had in a game in at least the last six years (last 78 games since the beginning of the 2007 season).

--it was LSU's first game since 2001 (12 years ago) with two 100-yard receivers (OBJ, Landry) -- the last time was when Josh Reed and Michael Clayton did it against Kentucky in 2011 with Rohan Davey at QB

--LSU had a 4th-string RB run for 95 yards on 13 carries (7.3 YPC) with 2 TD. LSU now has 4 running backs on the roster that have run for 95-plus in a game: Blue (4 times), Hill (4 times), Hilliard (3 times), Magee (1 time)

--OBJ on the TCU game: "It's like a weight off your shoulder. You never know what to expect."

--center Elliott Porter on the TCU game: "I'd say we had a lot of poise tonight"

--Miles on the TCU game: "That's what it's supposed to look like"

--LSU is 20-1 under Les Miles following a loss. LSU has lost back-to-back games just one time under Miles that coming in November of 2008 when the Tigers fell to Ole Miss and Arkansas in consecutive weeks.

--LSU has now won an FBS record 42 consecutive non-conference regular season games dating back to the 2002 season (the opening loss to Virginia Tech)

--LSU has now won 29 straight games in August/September (longest active streak in FBS)

--LSU is now 32-0 under Les Miles in non-conference regular-season games.

--Les Miles is 9-0 in season-openers at LSU (including 4-0 vs ranked opponents)

--LSU hasn’t lost a season-opener since a 26-8 setback to Virginia Tech in 2002. The Virginia Tech loss is also the last time the Tigers dropped a non-conference regular-season game.

ESPN analyst Todd Blackledge (QB who went 1st Round in the NFL Draft):

"My takeaway LSU: offense has a chance to be really good if the OLine stays healthy. Must develop some inside pass game (TE/RB) to help WRs"

    quotes from Gary Patterson:

"They’re not going to play a better defense...The quarterback made some throws. A couple of the out routes he threw there were two guys there, and the only place he could throw it he threw it, and it got caught."

How big a difference would Fields have made?

"A lot of difference," Patterson said. "A lot of times when they were in their one-back set with three wideouts, the guy was holding it for five or six seconds. Last year, go back and look at any of our film and see if you’re ever seeing the ball being held for five or six seconds. Pass rush is the best pass coverage. But we’ll get better at all that."
