Malzahn didn't go directly from HS to the pressure cooker of HC at one of the biggest named schools on the planet. I wouls suspect most guys to make a jump like that would probably falter.
Just going to ask the question. But what if this is a place holder/interim hire. We all know the next recruiting period is coming up fast and perhaps alleva ( makes me throw up in my mouth a little to give this prick any credit ) or O might be plugging someone in who is proven to finish recruiting this year strong. Then the plan would be let E coach next year and find a new OC the following year to replace the E who would retire or give up the pilot seat. Now if this is the case I am somewhat ok here, as E has been one of the most productive OC we have had in a while (yes this is just biased on his interim status but he still has be best numbers in many years). Coach Points Per Game Rush Yards Per Game Pass Yards Per Game Total Yards Per Game Cameron 31.0 223.9 193.6 417.5 Ensminger 32.0 253.6 211.3 464.9 Canada 28.1 210.8 201.3 412.1 It sounds as if there was a OC search but mostly hamstrung from the start. I'm sure I will get grief from the sky is falling crowd (ie 90% of you all on this board) but this is just the alternative devils advocate side I feel someone should present.
My biggest question is if they offer Ensminger the OC this year why did they go out and waste all that money on hiring Canada in the first place. Was that Oregeron trying to please Alleva for a sales pitch as a HC? IDK I don't like it one bit.
I don’t understand the point of doing that. Make the good OC hire and recruiting will fall into place
If you are being hamstrung and then a lack of time. I am not a huge fan of the idea but also if "the guy that they wanted" isn't out there or interested you have to punt and wait. I will also I think E is a good OC (just look at the stats) I agree his isn't the most attractive hire and not my first choice. That being said if he could be at least as productive as he was as a interim OC he is an upgrade, again the stats dont lie.
That was pretty much explained in the article you posted. Oeaux trusts E and E can also recruit. If Oeaux is going to strike out at least he will be swinging his own bat. If there is significant improvement in the offense and especially in the red zone I expect E to stay on for one more year. While the whole matter is and will be hugely unpopular with a large portion of the fanbase Oeaux doesn't care what you think any more than Miles did. Or Saban for that matter. Coaches don't read message forums. If it works out the fans will jump on board. If not they will all lose their jobs anyway. Then we can all melt down about which coach the new AD should hire.
I hope Oeaux's plan works and we dominate college football for years to come. Even if that means keeping the Duke of Dysfunction.
Orgeron is the coach, he should be allowed to make his own coaching choices. The way it happened was dramatic to say the least. He is going to get his chance to prove himself. Opinions at this point pro or con are just that, opinions.
