Several sources think Vandy's starter today is LHP Philip Pfeifer, he's #3 on their team with 10 starts, he was named SEC Pitcher of the Week earlier this season, career . 257 opposing bat avg at Vandy, drafted out of high school by Texas Rangers, US National Team, Louisville Slugger All-American, broke or matched multiple Tennessee state records , going 46 - 4 with 465 strikeouts and winning four straight state championships He keeps replica human skull in his locker named “Durik” During games that Pfeifer takes the mound, Durik is in the Commodores bullpen watching over the action. “That way I can feed off its power.” “I guess he uses it to scare away the hitters,” Rice said. “It sits in the bullpen and watches as he pitches, but we turn it the other way when we’re hitting because we don’t want to scare our hitters.” When asked about his acquisition of Durik, Pfeifer delivered a story so precise and detailed that it seemed like he believed it. “Originally when we first dug up the field to put the new turf in, there was kind of like this tomb over by the pitcher’s mound,” Pfeifer said. “So we lifted up the big stone tablet that was in place and went down (into the tomb). There were all sorts of weird candles that lit a passage way, so we went in. Toward the end there was an altar with a skull there, and there were all kinds of war swords, armor, memorabilia, elephant skulls and whatnot. …”
Pretty much insignificant how Mizzou and A&M for that matter, did in the Big12 last year as how the cross divisional schedule was made up. It looks like they both drew #1, #5 and #6 and each other as their cross divisional opponents. It appears to me that the baseball schedule was definitely seeded based upon last years standings. If the conference uses them same format next season, look forward to a Vandy/LSU series during the regular season.
Mere curiosity—separate paragraphs tend to indicate that it's not part of the discussion about the SECT. I've not a clue who stands out as the predominant teams other than TX and that school comes to mind due to how long Augie Garrido has been coaching. I remember Arkansas getting through Baylor last year in the Super's. It seems like OU was in the Super's as well...against UofSC maybe? Other than that I couldn't tell you a thing about how baseball has been in that conference. Actually, thinking about this a bit, I'm not sure I've ever seen Mizzou play in baseball.
I don't remember anyone from the Big 12,other than Texas, ever making any noise louder than a fart in baseball. Then again, I don't really follow the sport that much.
soph Jared Foster of powerhouse Barbe.in Lake Charles RBI singles with Ibarra.on 3rd puts LSU up 4-2 he turned down scholarship offers at other SEC schools for the opportunity to walk on at LSU On attending LSU - "I came here to contribute to a National Championship team and represent the best state in the nation"
I know I was side-tracking the subject. I wondered if they had high hopes for the baseball team in the conference like they did their football team. (Only sport that has lived up to their expectation is basketball I guess...if—what, third in the conference—that was good enough.
Mizzou has outstanding pitching, poor hitting. They were better than UT and UGA in the East this year. Both Vandy and LSU.played them. They made the NCAAT in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012...and they were Big 12 Tournament Champions last season. They are 27-33 overall vs Texas
That was a great play an inning ago by Ibarra. That was a very tough play over there on 3rd a minute ago, in slow motion it almost looked like he didn't even grabbed the ball with his hand, he just flipped it from his glove to his hand which sling shot the ball to first. If you get a chance, rewatch it.
