Well I can't speak to the reason he spurned us, but it is unlikely it resulted from reading a msg board. Most players have admitted that they don't really read this stuff, and when they do they find it to be kind of humorous. Players tend to know a great deal more about themselves, their friends, and football in general then speculative internet people. Now hearing fans boo the QB like they did in '08, that would tend to stick with a recruit. But not radio callers and certainly not msg boards.
I must've missed something? I didn't think Ely was committing anywhere until today. If he spurned LSU, where is he going?
He is not making a decision for another 2 weeks or so. Word is that LSU is out from a few sources but some sources in Florida are still saying it will be LSU. If not LSU which I think is the case, then he is hoping to receive an offer from ND and UF (Some say UF has offered or gave him a sense of hope for an offer sometime soon) Clemson and Wake Forest would be 2 other options.
This class will not be complete until we get a stud QB. All these great athletes mean nothing if you don't have QB depth. Praying ZL stays devoted to Football...
Someone who follows this more than I do told me his "sources" told him that Ely is waiting to see what happens with ZL before making a decision. No idea if thats true, just repeating what I been told. But then again, its not often that you read something on the internet and it turns out to be bogus.
Well Ely will most probably be a redshirt candidate and ZL is not, so I don't see the problem. If ZL stays through his senior year that gives Ely 2 years, and you have to think the chances of ZL staying 4 years might be slim.
I don't see him playing this year unless JL/JJ sustain injuries or ZL blows everyone's mind in camp. Personally, I don't want a Freshman sniffing the field and risking hurting his mentality early in his career. The SEC is brutal. Even if he doesn't redshirt in Baseball and stays devoted to Football, he could still leave as a RS Sophomore. So, I don't think Baseball will have anything to do with him redshirting or not.
Sounds off based on the timeline. Ely is scheduled to announce before the MLB deadline. Lee could come out before then and say he is staying but depth doesn't seem to be an issue for him at ND and UF who have better depth at QB compared to LSU. If he is looking for the best chance to play early, LSU would be at the top of the list compared to his other top teams.
