I can say with 100% certainty that this upcoming season of football is the most excitedly anticipated ever. All-time. We have the Tigers ranked top 5 in nearly every preseason poll, many have us at #2. We also have one of the most intriguing schedules. Multiple HUGE games in Death Valley, a pseudo-home game vs Tulane in the Superdome (which may play host to the Tigers once more), and a grudge match in the belly of the beast against a former coach (and its personal!). Then there is the pros... The Saints. Rags-to-riches. #1 offense from last year, probably the most exciting on the field team in the entire NFL. That label also applies to LSU, with all the team speed and big hitting, now with a new offense, easily one of the most exciting teams in college. Both are not only considered "contenders", the NFC road to the superbowl will in all likely hood go through the Saints and the college football world will be very focused on the tigers, among a few, all season long to sort out who's going to the NC game and BCS bowls. In my lifetime there has never been an upcoming season with so much hype, potential, high expectations, and excitement; from both of the Louisiana's major football teams, LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints baby!! No, matter how it ends, you gotta admit this season has the potential to be one exciting, joyful, and fulfilling ever. ...still waiting on my tickets, LSU!!!
I really can't wait. Yesterday marked 11 weeks until the season starts, and I'm starting to get a little antsy. It's way too early to be getting this excited. We're going to have an exciting team, and we should be favored to win literally every game we play. This is our best opportunity to win a national championship EVER.
I am conflicted about the approaching football season... I am, of course, ready to get back to watching the Tigers, Saints, and, yes, the Cajuns, and I'm definately ready to get back to coaching, but as a teacher its hard to wish for the end of the summer to come more quickly.
I have to agree, this is the most anticipated football season I can remember. LSU looks solid. We may not win them all, but we do have a shot at it. We could lose to Va. Tech, Fla. Auburn, S. Carolina, Arky, or Bama (anything can happen in a grudge match, and we have a grudge against nickie), and the biggest potential trap is Kentucky, cause they follow Fla. and are just before Auburn, and we play them at their place. If a good QB gets hot, they have a shot (remember Tenn in 05). But in pre-season, I'd favor us in each game. After the season starts, we may be a dog at times, but I hope not. My hope is that Matt Flynn shines like he did against Miami (he doesn't have to be quite that hot every game even), and he leads us like Mauck did (maybe better). If our young receivers step up, and our young running backs, we'll be very good.
