I remember hearing or reading a while back that the N. Illinois game that is on the schedule for 9/16/06 would be moved to a later date. This would open up a date in the 12 game schedule, which I would assume would be replaced with a road game since we would already have 7 home games scheduled. Any ideas on if this game is still being moved and who may replace them on the schedule? Thanks. :geauxtige

That date on the schedule on the LSU web site shows TBA as the opponent.

Hopefully someone marketable, since the 2006 home schedule looks a little down and unexciting in conference play.

I would think it would be a name opponent, however, I think it will probably be on the road since we already have 7 home games.

I wouldn't mind playing a team from the ACC--given our success recruiting in some of those areas (Maryland, etc)...

I wouldn't mind playing Maryland, GT or NC State.

Why would it be a road game? Is there some NCAA rule against having more than 7 home games?

Screw it: I say do a one and done with someone in Baton Rouge. Play 8 games at Tiger Stadium and this'll be a top 5 team.

    Again.

If they did have to move a game, I'm sure Tulane would be more than happy to make the 2006 a Dome game instead.

I say schedule a weaker opponent.. I see 2k6 as a year similar to 2k4.. tough sec games on the road, a buttload of seniors gone (and who knows, maybe a few valuable juniors like Broussard and Landry)... it will be hard enough to win the sec games, dont put anything else on them...

There is no rule against it. LSU could play 8 games but that would be pretty stupid and add fire to the Pac 10 fans and writers of the world (see recent CNNSI article) that gripe about SEC teams not going on the road and playing against competitive name teams. I would have to agree with them if LSU scheduled a game against a rent-a-win to have an 8 game home schedule. LSU makes enough money with 7 home games. One of the reasons for the addition of the 12 game schedule was to encourage intersectional match-ups between name teams. I, as a season ticket holder, would much rather see LSU play a name team on the road than another pansy at home, and I don't like the Tulane option you propose for the same reason. If I can't go to the road game, I would like to be able to watch it on television and Tulane would not be on tv. :geauxtige

Would you, as an LSU fan, like to see this team lose 2-3 games in part because they add a "competitive road game" to a road schedule that *already* includes Tennessee, Florida, Auburn? I'd hazard a guess that if LSU plays, say, an Ohio State on the road with the teams I've listed above also on the road...and has Alabama as it's "best" home-game of the year, more than a few season ticket holders will be disappointed since the good game/suck game ratio will be heavily weighted towards the road games in 2006.

Most sane observers know that the SEC is brutal, and given LSU's murderous road schedule picking a moderate opponent for that home game would be just fine.

If the SEC sucks so bad, then a 12-0 LSU team fueled by an 8-0 home record will get smashed in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. If LSU would be overrated in this scenario, then they'll get rolled just like OU did last year, right?

    We'll see.

Would you not cheer for the Tigers in that situation, just because they had the good fortune to play 66% of their games at home that season? I didn't think so.

I will cheer for them just the same, you are correct. However, I am not insinuating we need to go to Ohio State, Michigan, Oklahoma, etc. I would like to see LSU play a decent team on the road, however. I understand the good/bad game ratio will not be great in 2006. Unfortunately that is a product of how the SEC schedule is set up and cannot be changed. However, 8 home games to make up for this is not the solution in my mind. And as to your argument as to whether or not I would like to see the team lose 2-3 games because they added a competitive road schedule, my feeling is that good teams win on the road, and I would much rather see LSU lose an exciting game on the road than beat W. Carolina 56-0 in a home game. Rarely do teams when all of their games and the home schedule should not be loaded with cupcakes to accomplish that. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this topic.
