PG Spencer JR, Bass SO, Terrebone SR SG Dotson FR, Farrer SR, Terrebone SR SF Mitchell SR, Graham SO PF Warren SO, Ludwig FR C Green JR, Harris SO Dotson will have to be a 3rd scorer behind Mitchell and Spencer next season. He won't need to score 20 like Thornton, but he will have to be in double digits. Warren will have to play big inside and snatch some rebounds. We only have a roster of 11 players. We will need to find a couple of walk-ons. I hope we can recruit a JC player at SF. Not sure if Graham will develop in time to contribute in 2010.
I don't look for Dotson to come on so quickly. I'm betting he develops him a little. The guy has loads of talent but this is the SEC. Although Farrar has had his struggles he plays good defense. He could surprise a lot of people since this season he didn't have the confidence/permission to shoot. If we need anything we should find a good SG on the JC circuit along with a F. Warren is promising. He played strong in the times he was in this season. Just need more time on the floor. I also wish we could find a true big center.
Yes, I agree we should get a JC SG for 2010 to help Dotson out, in case he does not develop so quickly. Dotson needs to develop quick if we are to be successful next season. Farrer is not the answer.
For what it's worth, Garrett Green is a RS So, and Dennis Harris is a RS Fr. So, they could be around for a while. And yes, the LSU staff is definitely combing the JUCO ranks. It's a toss up as to whether you recruit a SG, SF or another PF/Center, but clearly LSU needs depth at all three, and they will struggle more to score points next year. That means getting a solid scorer at SG or SF to become a reliable scoring option is priority one.
And thus my comments about Dotson having to come into his own very quickly next season. Otherwise, it could be a long season.
I would tend to agree with you here, but let's try this on for size. Bo Spencer plays SG and Bass plays point. Tas shifts to PF, and that leaves Dotson, or Graham, to play SF, and you've got Warren, Green and Harris interchangeable at Center. I know that's not ideal, but Spencer can play some SG (that's the beauty of the combo guard) and that allows LSU to go to a small "scoring" line up with Warren and Tas playing, letting Dotson find his own. I also think that we underestimate what a kid like Dennis Harris might be able to do. The kid was scoring nearly 30 points a game in a competitive Atlanta HS system, and at 6'10" will give us some added scoring dimension that we really didn't have this year. Now, no doubt, we will be a very thin team in terms of depth, and that's why you'd like to see another Spring signing if for nothing else a guy who can come in and play various roles and eat up 15-20 minutes a game. Makes perfect sense for a JUCO kid, which is why a kid like Jenirro Bush (who is a 6'6-7" kid that can play 1 through 3 on the floor) makes so much sense for LSU. Funny thing is I have heard zero about him lately, so I don't know if the staff has backed off him or vice versa. A kid also like Jeremy Jacob (kid from BR, went to GA, and then went to JUCO) might have made sense, right? Except the kid signed with Oregon, and presumably LSU and him were in contact. Just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I have trust in CTJ's ability to find some gems, here, but man, you'd think the SEC Champs would have an easier time picking up some guys that want the exposure.
If he goes pro, we are done next season. I hope he doesn't. I don't think he will be top 15/20. Hopefully that keeps him here.
