Ranking a recruiting class is a pointless exercise. No one knows how 17 and 18 year olds will pan out. Rivals, Scouts, and the rest have found a nice way to make alot of money, but thier rankings won't ever be scutinized. When we have enough information three or four years from now to truely rank these classes, we will all have moved on to the 2012 class.

In the 1990's Nebraska rarely had a top 20 class, yet they won three NCs. Three years ago, Callahan had a top 5 class, yet the Huskers didn't go Bowling this year.

You improve your team based on scheme, need, coach-ability, and intangibles that you can't always measure on paper. Sure, speed and athleticism are important factors, but the number of stars a film geek gives a player is not.

People need to stop putting so much stock in stupid Recruiting rankings.
    People panicked about Bama.
Guys Xavier Lee, Hester 2 star.
Florida State's "Class" that stinks, ranked #3.

    Clemson's impact players. Ranked 40th....

Relax. Recruiting rankings mean what people try to make them out to be. Its fun for a few weeks. Other teams will moan and in three years it wont mean squat.
In the grand scheme they mean nothing. Coaching of talent is the key. LSU has plenty of talent
    We are fine.

Well, with the year in and year out highly ranked recruiting classes, the hyper national media attention, and the preseason and early season No. 1 predictions, its pretty hard for USC not to disappoint. I frankly think squeaking by Stanford last year would have been almost as disappointing to may fans and pollsters as the actual loss.

As far as the PAC10 Championship being meaningless, look at Georgia, they think the SEC Championship should be meaningless.

In the last 5 yrs recruiting rankings have been very accurate. (Those guys are getting pretty good)
I am one that thinks that the Tigers should have done better than they did. Louisiana can not be loaded every year so CLM and staff need to do better job getting out of state kids. for ex. USC and OSU and UM did fine jobs and they did not just win the NC:milesmic:

Recruiting for the year is pretty much wrapped up by the time the national championship game is played, it usually pays better dividends the year after. If you look at LSU's list Miles did pretty good out of state. You also have to remember that for much of the last half of the season many thought he might end up at Meechigan. Also Coaches Like Saban and Meyer did tons of negative recruiting with Miles will never win a championship and he is winning with Sabans players. Those coaches have no negative material to work with now. I would like to be number one every year but considering everything this class is pretty damn good and next years class should be better.

I am not trying to pick a fight, but I must ask the question. What concrete evidence do you have that these recruiting services are accurate? There is too little data to show that the last two or three years are worth the paper the rankings are written on?

Hadn't thought of that angle-interesting point. Made me also think of how meaningful the Big 10 Championships are too.

Did anyone hear what Miles said at his press conference in regards to the RB position? Basically said they weren't able to sign any because of the depth there now. He said he wants someone who's going to come in and not be afraid to challenge he incumbents and that they couldn't find anyone to do that this year.

I realize that's just coach speak for 'we have too much talent at that position right now and anyone that signs probably won't see much playing time anyway', but I love the way he spun that. He did say that next year, they would need to sign at least 2.

Rival's president is an Alabama graduate. All that go to bama are whores and football players and they aren't that good.
